Lovely hotel.
Nice little hotel tucked away off a Main Street. The rooms are lovely and very clean. The staff were very friendly and helpful. It is in a great location within walking distance of all the main attractions but is also a nice quiet place to stay.

Lovely hotel
The hotel was lovely, something a little more quirky and different which is exactly what we wanted. The room itself and the bathroom were stunning, and the shower was amazing! Very central location and smiley staff. Only criticism would be the comfort levels as the beds were quite stiff and I didn’t get as much of a good nights sleep as I’d have hoped, however the breakfast delivered to the room in the morning sorted that out! Would definitely return.

A heart of the city gem
Lovely hotel in the heart of the city. Ideal for a short stay as everywhere is walking distance. The hotel is clean, very friendly staff and our room was lovely. Each room is unique and very interesting in its design.

Not 5 Star!
This hotel is 'okay' but it is certainly not 5 star as Hotels.com have it rated. The plaque on their door says 4 star and that's a push. It's a quirly old building with lots of character but I won't be rushing back. The window in my room did not shut properly and a window somewhere nearby was banging in the wind all night. Receptionist knew that the window didn't shut - got the impression it had been like that for a while and no-one seemed inclined to fix it. I was confused by the reviews for this hotel as they are mostly really bad or really good with not much in between. I only paid £70 for the room so maybe I got the last and worst one. It's not the worst room I've ever had but don't come here expecting a 5 star hotel!

Lovely quirky hotel in the perfect location
Lovely quirky hotel right in the centre of York. The location is perfect, though there is no parking - but park at Marygate for £12 a day - a very small inconvenience. The hotel arranged flowers and champagne for my partner's 50th and they were lovely. Had a very good large room over the front door; only minor problem is that there is some party noise from the street (not the hotel's fault) and the hotel is set back through an alleyway from the main street. Other rooms were apparently much quieter, though some are up a narrow staircase to the rear. I imagine the rooms can get hot in summer as the sash windows only opened slightly (and one of the sash cords on each window was broken). Good in room facilities, Nespresso machine, good toiletries. Can't find any real fault overall.

Great location
Had a pre birthday break with a friend. Very friendly and welcoming staff. Great location in the city centre. Loved the style and decor. We had a ground floor room. Unfortunately the cleanliness let it down. Grubby doors and cobwebs in the room, dusty headboard. Surprised that is rated as 5 star hotel.
