Great stay @ the Village hotel
Check in was smooth, got a club room even though we paid for a basic which was great! Hotel room itself was very clean, beds were comfy. It’s backing on to a busy road but when the window is shut you can’t hear a thing, and you have a bus right outside that goes directly to the city centre in ~15 mins. The bar & grill has a good selection of cocktails and a good menu but lacking a lot in the vegan options unfortunately, so we went out in to the city to eat (there’s also a 24 hour garage across the road with a small Waitrose). We was also able to sort out a late checkout an hour before we was supposed to check out originally which was really handy. If you want to do this before the cleaners come to the room without going to the front desk, download the village hotels app and contact reception through there as there’s no phone in the room. We saw quite a few negative reviews on here before our stay and was slightly concerned but I couldn’t fault the hotel much at all only issues were the menu lacking in vegan options & the air con didn’t really work, on its highest setting you still couldn’t really feel it but this may have just been a problem in our room, I would recommend the hotel & if you can afford it would recommend getting the club rooms!

Edinburgh Fringe Stay
This is a good hotel, a little bit further out of town with lots of public transport to get you around. Its a 45 minute walk to town but there are a number of bus routes to get into town and a taxi at night is only £7/8. We arrived early but were met with a rude receptionist when we asked if our room was ready. It doesnt take much to be polite even if we are early. My wife asked at the leisure area if she could use the changing rooms which they allowed. And on her return 30mins later a new receptionist said our room was ready. Room was a normal size for a city stay and clean. The hotel is close to a fire station so depending on which side of the hotel you're on then you may want to keep windows closed. The housekeeping staff were far too persistent. On our checkout morning (which we paid the extra to check out late) they banged on our door 4 times from 8am onwards. This and the rude receptionist are why i scored service down. We used the leisure facilities here and they were good. Only let down was the jacuzzi was broken do not in use. This hotel is good but not great. It's smart and clean but a few service issues let it down.

Our Second Stay in This Superb Hotel
Second stay here, which speaks for itself I guess. It's close to the city centre by bus/uber and has plenty of parking. The gym/pool etc looks great but we didn't have time to use them. Apart from sketchy coffee, breakfast was good and the staff very helpful. The room was spotless and the shower great and, being on the 4th floor, we had a great view. This is my go-to hotel for trips to Edinburgh as are Village hotels in general around the country.
