Overall excellent!
Everything was perfect to start with, we arrived extremely early and asked if we could park the car, use the baby changing facilities and then check in later on, the friendly receptionist had no problem with assisting us. The receptionist could then see that our baby had started becoming unsettled so found us a room to check into early. The room was standard, clean and comfortable. Breakfast was excellent. Then we came to check out and the receptionist (different from the day before) had an attitude problem, wasn’t very friendly, wanted to charge us £10 to leave our car for 2 hours until 11am (standard check out time) because the previous receptionist had kindly let us park early. It’s a shame that this one member of staff ruined our experience because everything else was pretty much perfect!

Room price not good., but near Excel Exhibition
This is written to General manager of this hotel chain group entity., As after few nights staying with my friend we found our nose stuffy and blocking feeling in each morning. Staff make this place
So Louise at reception took our bags at 8am so we didn't have to carry them round London all day. The hotel is modern and rooms were comfortable and a good size for London. Staff cleaned the room and then a supervisor checked that everything was to standard. The staff in the bar and restaurant were excellent, going out of their way to speak to our kids and ask questions about their day etc. Breakfast was a typical Holiday Inn Express affair with a selection of hot and cold stuff. Breakfast was busy but the staff again were efficient at getting tables cleaned and restocking the food. Don't think there was a single staff member who didn't say good morning or wasn't wearing smile. Such a breath of fresh air for London where the norm is sullen looks and everyone doing the bear minimum. Hotel is located about 200m from the nearest DLR which will swing you into the city in about 20 mins. Its also at the end of the runway at City airport. the kids loved watching planes take off and landing and I and my wife were grateful that the windows fitters when building the hotel put in soundproof glass and fitted the windows properly !! you could not hear the planes at all. Great hotel for a family weekend

Very good 8.0
decent but quite a few flaws
checked in and the plug hole in the sink was stuck so the sink wouldn't drain, was seen to within 10 minutes which reflects well on the reception staff on the day (member of the reception staff attended to this). TV kept on losing signal which was annoying. Very loud corridors, I was woken up (and I'm a deep sleeper) by other guests walking by the room each morning. There were numerous wear and tear marks on the floors, and dirty marks on the blue decorative throws on the bed (which I can't see the point of anyway as the first thing I do is remove them as they look and feel unclean). I was also woken by housekeeping who knocked on my door repeatedly on the final morning of my stay despite having put the do not disturb sign on my doorhandle. £14/24 parking in this part of london is expensive. I've stayed at other hotels on the same street who have not charged for parking at all. Most worryingly for me: Be careful with using the wifi, my computer security system picked up viral attacks within minutes of me connecting to the wifi. I disconnected from the wifi straight away. Bathroom is very good and spacious however. Location is very close to Royal Albert DLR station which is convenient.

Very good 8.0
Great hotel for business or pleasure
We had a great overnight stay for a business exhibition at Excel. The room was clean and very comfortable and the staff friendly. However, the only problem area we encountered was the evening meal. Staff were short and people at the bar were waiting over half an hour to just order food. One staff member had the job of doing all the drinks and orders and clearly was struggling. It was not a busy night. Our Steak deal was poor as the cut of steak was tough and stringy and had to be returned. The staff dealt with the problem slowly and we waited another 20mins for a replacement. All the issues were down to manpower and poor management with staffing. We wondered how they would have coped on a busy night! There were two separate exhibitions on at Excel, so they should have been prepared. Other than the meal though we thought the stay was great value and would consider going again.
