Rude staff.
The hotel was set in beautiful surroundings, within the new forest were horses roam freely. The garden area was delightful and had seating for those who wish to eat outside or simple have a drink or two. They have a small simple indoor pool which the children loved and the facilities all in all were pleasing. For me, what let this hotel down was the attitude of some staff members.. as a young family we were clearly not their usual clientele, and this was made obvious by the look on their faces when we passed through the hotel. One of the receptionist staff, an older lady was stood on the stairs having a chat with another lady who stood at the bottom, as the children passed her on the stairs, she stopped talking looked at each of them and screwed up her face. I appreciate she may have felt they they should have waited for her to move however I do not feel that she should have stood there mid flight of stairs having a chat in the first place, so her facial expressions were not needed and quite frankly rude and unprofessional. The oldest of the children who is 11, actually said she liked the hotel but not the people in it as they made her uncomfortable. So just to clarify, if you are an older person this place is for you, those of a younger age are not as welcome.

Work needed
This was our second visit to Moorhill house. We love the area. The hotel is in desperate need of updating. The swimming pool was closed for repair throughout our stay and we were only notified of this when we arrived. Also complimentary toiletries were not replenished during our stay. The hotel is drastically understaffed. Having said that the staff on duty worked extremely hard to make our stay pleasant. A special mention to Callum who seemed to be everywhere and although inexperienced he coped well. I think management need to look at staffing and training at Moorhill house which could turn a good hotel into a great one.

Rest closed mon/tues and very dated/mouldy room
Lovely part of the New Forest and convenient to A31 - so great location. Although... it wasn't clear when I booked that the restaurant is closed on Mon/Tues, which is unhelpful after a long day travelling and very remote (so had the offer of light bites, sandwich, baguette). Served a warm bottle of Peroni. Also wasn't aware that it provides exceptional service for "dogs" (including dog towels, bowls etc in reception doorway) - not great if not a dog lover and whilst on business travels! Room No. 11 very very dated and mouldy patches throughout. Would avoid for business/family travel - unless you have a dog in tow of course!

Superb location - set back in the woods - village of Burley about 10 minute walk - take a torch if you want to go in the evening Service and facilities very good and food in the restaurant was excellent - room a little basic but serves its purpose Would return and recommend if you want peace and quiet in some of the most beautiful countryside in the UK

Rude staff, didnt make us feel welcome at all. I requested another bottle of water in my room and it took another couple of times asking and a hour and a half later for it to arrive!

Honest review
Quiet hotel tucked away in beautiful surroundings. Friendly staff and good food. If you want a "posh" hotel then this probably isn't for you, but it you want somewhere warm, friendly and away from it all then get booking.

weekend break in the New Forest
The family run hotel is friendly and personable. The room was OK, a little run down, and the en-suite a bit qwerky. The bed was too hard for my liking. WiFi worked around the hotel. Swimming pool is small but good for a morning dip. The sauna is good as long as it is switched on beforehand to warm up. Location is private but good to get out into the forest walking or cycling. Breakfast in the hotel is good bar snacks were above average.
