Lovely Hosts and Worth a Stay
Initial impressions are the Red Lion appears to be undergoing an external revamp with the over window signs currently missing. The pub is deceptively large and traditional and would benefit from an update, especially in the area where the pool table is situated. It is an old building with thick walls, however those separating the bedrooms are thin and noise bleeds through easily. The bedroom windows are single glazed sash type and do little to insulate from heat/cold or sound - ear plugs are a must if staying as the pub sits on a bend in the road and the local church bells sound through the night. The hosts are what make this place work, Gill and Simon are friendly and helpful and show respect to guests; listening and acting upon requests and making them feel welcome. Breakfast is affordable and well cooked and special requirements are accommodated (veggie specific items would be an improvement though). Our triple room was clean and tidy with good facilities and a nice en-suite. The bedding was fresh if a bit outdated. In terms of improvements i would swap the large main bed for a standard double to liberate some space as there is also a single bed in the room. The fabric furnishings are showing signs of wear and could be replaced with wood to make them more durable and easier to clean. I think the hosts are working hard to make the Red Lion a good choice to stay in the area, I am sure with more customers they will find the means to further improve standards in the future.

Friendliest place I've ever stayed.
Booked as we were at attending my Godson's Wedding at Peckforton Castle. Arrived the day before the wedding on my own waiting for the hubby to join me later in the evening after he'd finished work. Long story short he couldn't join me (work commitments) leaving me on my own. This is a family run Hotel and I have never been made more welcome, not only from the wonderful staff but the locals too, they couldn't have done more for me. The day of the wedding I had arranged for my daughter in law to pick me up in a taxi however the wonderful Landlady took us instead, going far and beyond anything I've ever known in my adult life and travelling all around the UK and the majority of the world. I could not believe how high spec my room was at the price paid and the lovely breakfast was freshly cooked when I went down in the morning. Amazing place, beautiful room and by far the nicest and most friendly staff I've ever come across.

Cozy last minute overnight stay neat Chester
We found the Red Lion when looking last minute for somewhere to stay near Chester, took a chance as it was a great price and was not disappointed in any way. We received a warm welcome upon our arrival and were shown to our en-suite room which was clean and ready for us. The room size was adequate but most importantly bed was comfortable and we had a great nights sleep once we got used to the local church clock chiming every 15 minutes. The optional Full English breakfast was fantastic as was the ‘barsnacks’ food we had on the evening. The pub itself is small and friendly and the locals were friendly too. Tarvin is a small village and there’s not much to see or do but nice for an evening stroll. The location is great for anyone wanting to visit Chester but not wanting to stay in the City. We’ll definitely be making a return visit.

Very good starving stay.
This is simple pub accommodation in a pleasant small Cheshire town. The room was large with tea and coffee plus a large en-suite bathroom with nice toiletries. Comfortable double bed. Nice lounge for a drink downstairs with bar snacks if you want. Some pub noise and noise from the road but never enough to really disturb and it was very quiet during sleeping hours. Excellent optional breakfast fresh cooked to order and very reasonably priced. The best thing is the attitude of the owners who simply cannot do enough to make you feel comfortable and welcome. Really very good value simple straightforward accommodation. Places to eat in the town too.

Poor 2.0
Quaint little place, free parking on pub car park. No WiFi or code for it in room. Bed far too near to radiator it nearly burnt head board, no function of turning it down even though man advised Stayed two nights, I arrived back after second night and no one had been in room never mind cleaned. Nice stand free bath, loose from floor, taps didn't get hot and shower loose. Skirt boards half done and half painted. Small TV and grim light in bathroom with hardly lit mirror
