Dark and Depressing Rooms; Unresponsive Management
Not as advertised. DARK and depressing environment with black carpet, black tile and dark grey walls. TINY two-person elevator that shakes en route to the front desk located on the sixth floor! SMALL rooms. Everything OVERPRICED. My room was located at the end of a shadowy hall past a broken window. Staff adamantly refused to permit an early checkout...despite the circumstances outlined above. When I asked to speak with a manager, I was told that he was on holiday for a month! I have stayed in five star properties around the world and have never encountered anything of this nature. Despite the kindness of individual hotel employees...it is apparent that management views international travelers as an expendable commodity and has little interest in ensuring guest satisfaction.

GREAT HOTEL AND LOCATION -HIGHLY RECOMMEND
AIRPORT TO HOTEL TRANSPORT Hotel shuttle to airport is available. Call in advance to book. ALSO NOTE - public transit is available from terminal 2 and 4. Would recommend going to terminal 4 as this is the first stop. There is a yellow express bus available for 5 euro per person. The Metro is also an option but was under construction during my stay in Madrid. HOTEL HIGHLIGHTS Arrived at 11 am and was greeted by the door man who took my bags and guided me to the 6th floor reception and check in area Check in was fast and did not cost me anything extra for early check in bags were delivered to my room within 5 minutes of me entering my room Rooms were smaller but staff explained that hotels in the city center are smaller. This was not a big deal as service and proximity to activities and restaurants were minutes away. Great breakfast and lunch options available at Josemi across the street from the hotel Turn down service was excellent BIG value add was the portable wifi device. Did not have phone service so this was great for me. 100 euro charge if lost. hotel wifi was fast Also liked the heating rack for my towels and robe. Room and hotel was very clean

Upscale hotel with the best location and staff!
Amazing hotel! Location wise - it’s right in front of Banco de España subway station and walking distance to El Retiro and Gran Via shopping area! Less than two minutes of walking you found amazing tapas and paella, and right in front of hotel are two souvenirs shops which made it so easy for us! Very safe area because it’s so lively anytime of the day! Concierge and hotel staff wise - they are always welcoming and professional, provided us with water bottle and face towel for our jog in the morning. We are always remembered and were address by our last time every time. I decided to have my morning coffee and croissant in the courtyard instead of main dining hall to have a change of scene and the hotel staff gladly obliged, no fuss at all! We were also able to store our huge luggages with the concierge for two days when we traveled to Seville, turn out to be extremely helpful given we were traveling by train and huge luggages would be a burden. Lastly, room wise - we were very lucky to be upgraded to the suite, it’s very quiet at the end of the corridor and lots of space! Bed and silk duvet cover were extremely comfortable. Definitely will return the next time we are in Madrid, thank you Boca!

Luxury Hotel in a great location
We stayed here for only 2 nights and wish we could have stayed longer. The staff was exceptional from the minute we pulled up in our rental car. They came running, grabbed our bags, and then helped us parked out car in the underground parkade (which was very close and easy to access). Check in was a breeze. All of the staff was friendly and helpful. The concierge recommended great shopping, restaurants and a spa. We loved everything he suggested. The restaurant in the hotel is fantastic. Breakfast was amazing. Our room had a great view. Nice bed, great bathroom and overall nice modern decor. There is a fantastic park to run or walk in less then 1km away. Everything was within walking distance. shopping, restaurants, ect. I would definitely recommend this hotel to friends.

We LOVED this hotel!
We couldn't have been happier with our stay at The Principal Madrid. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and seemed to go out of their way to make sure we were getting everything we needed. The rooms were beautiful, we could open the door to the balcony and get fresh air, and the sounds of life outside that we enjoy, and we loved the warming rack in the bathroom! They ordered the bouquet and fruit that my husband had requested before we came, and it was absolutely gorgeous. Along with some chocolate and cava to make our welcome outstanding. Everything was within walking distance, and if we didn't want to walk, a taxi was always quickly hailed by hotel staff. They also made recommendations and reservations for us for dinner and events on several occasions. We both agreed that if we are ever back in Madrid we will be staying at this hotel without a doubt!
