Lovely old Inn
Lovely old inn with lots of character. We were in the extension part. Rooms were spacious - no drawers just shelves though enough for us. Would have preferred more light at night as onlymovwrhead lights were in the bathroom and dimmed one near door - other than that there were only not very bright lamps so not great for reading. No in room fridge but we did get one brought in when we asked, same with hairdryer. No kettle and although there is coffee constantly in reception you can only get tea when staff are there between 8 and 8. Breakfast was rather limited but we had the homemade granola and it was delicious and very filling. There is no bar or evening meal service on Monday or Tuesday evening - the only local option is a small pizza place, McDonalds or Black rock steak house (think that is what it was called) fortunately this had really good food and plenty of choice so not a problem. Lovely grounds and they provide chairs so you can sit and relax or read. Good location for touring.

Welcome to Hotel of Misdirection
We booked this hotel, guided by the lovely photos shown on their website. But looks can be extremely deceiving; what we ended up staying in was a far cry from the beautiful photos (at least 90% of them) shown in their advertising and promos. When I asked about the condition of our room after checking in - sparse-lack of decor - totally bare walls with a screw or two where photos should have been hung, rows of empty bookshelves lining the walls, old squeaky bed, spiders in bathroom - contrasted to the beautiful photos shown, I was told, "Oh, you are in one of our standard rooms." If this is is the lowest standard of any room we've stayed in - in memory. Hard to control heat, weeds growing between window frame, bathroom door falling apart. (Would have eaten my deposit but simply could not find anything else within any reasonable distance. Staff was pleasant and congenial. Restaurant was fine and fairly priced. But beyond those things, this was like staying in a motel in a squalid film noir. And, while noted in some places as a B&B....sorry, Charlie, this is not a genuine B&B. Historic, fascinating history....but not a place I would recommend staying. (And finding our room....another misguided adventure. Let's just say I know what the roof looks like...even though we stayed in the "basement".)

Not the greatest. Spartan room. Really out of the way.
