    Great Hotel in impressive surroundings
Great hotel with great views of the volcano. Great pool area and walks in the grounds . Free guided walk by the hotel every morning where you get to see the wildlife. A tractor takes you back up the hill. Food good but the same breakfast every day. It is quite isolated which is good but the journey back into town is around 5k on a very bumpy track - but well worth it.

    Great onsite trails
This place is really good if you want to enjoy the grounds and hopefully see some of the wildlife. It is in the middle of nowhere but has enough to do for a few days - we didn't even get the chance to visit the pool or Jacuzzi - which looked very nice. Some of the rooms are away from the main building, maybe 500m down the road, and although they will happily send a vehicle to drive you up the road, you'll obviously have to wait for this each time, so if you are without transport, bear this in mind. If you like a bit of walking, this a great place because there are a number of trails onsite to keep you busy. The bar and restaurant area is a pleasant place to hang out in and the food was much better than I expected (after reading some poor reviews on this point). It is cooler in this area than other places (Alajuela, Jaco) so can offer some welcome respite from the heat, especially at night.

Very basic room but the views & the trails are Gr8
The property is excellent with fantastic views of the volcano. Lots of trails to travel on. The food was so-so but the chicken milenssa was excellent. We had a very noisy room number nine by the reception. We heard the cars dropping off tourist constantly. I think it would’ve been much better if we were on the volcano side instead of the parking lot

Be careful with tours offered by observatory reception staff, specifically Esteban. The hanging bridges guided tour is well worth it! The guide will show you many animals you won’t be able to see on your own. $38/pp. On the other hand, Esteban in reception will send you for $35.00 on the sloth trail tour. His friend will pick you up in a falling apart car, take you to the back yard of a construction site, will try to stop the tour after 50 minutes even though should be a two hour tour and expect to be paid $25 above the entrance ticket which Is only $10.00. TOURIST TRAP at it’s best. Esteban though was very helpful to find our lost cell phone in a cab in town.

Comfortable lodge in the middle of the rainforest
Enjoyed our stay here. Beautiful grounds and many possible activities available. We stayed two nights and did not feel we needed to leave the property at all during this time. Enjoyed the morning guided hike as well as exploring on our own. We enjoyed an hour long horseback tour of the property as well. The restaurant was excellent--we ate all our meals here. Good variety and everything was of excellent quality. Included breakfast was also excellent. The only thing I did not like about staying in the lodge was the dampness. Everything was damp all the time and nothing ever dried. But I guess it is to be expected in the rainforest!
