Hidden Gem

The owner of The Lodge was very welcoming providing me with good information on how to find the place. My room was well equipped with TV, Fridge and Kettle plus storage for clothing if I needed to use it. The site also has ample parking. Although miles from other places, it's a quiet location and quite a hidden gem. It doesn't take long to get back to the Chatham area.

Just not for me

I was disappointed with the area and the Lodge. Not having en-suite was not for me. Greeting was really good. The room was clean and comfortable. Just not for me. Sorry.

The linen was very fresh and clean smelling, owner very pleasant. The property is undergoing refurbishment, hence the low price. TV didnt work and fridge needed a clean, the loo brush was source of nasty smell.

A good, traditional guest house.

This is a good old-fashioned guest house near the sea. Comfy bed, clean bathrooms. Really good value for money. The house is tucked away behind the local library, but the owners sent a text message before the start of my trip, explaining how's to find the place.

Great value!

Uncomplicated, cozy and clean. The location is priceless with beautiful footpaths along the coast line. The town has also a nice local pub. Henry was very accommodating and provided suggestions of places to visit. Definitely recommend!

Although the property needs some renovating and a bit of paint in places it was VERY clean. Nice welcome. Very quiet - not just the area but the property was as well. Would have been nice to have a served breakfast even if just continental. Bed was good. Parking easy. A good base to visit the area.

Basic but comfortable, everything worked fine. Nice quiet area with shop and takeaways close by. We wanted a place far away from the city and this was just right with long walks in and around the area. For those looking for a luxury stay and nightlife this is not for you.

Henry the manager was welcoming, friendly & very attentive, making sure I had everything I needed. I had a clean & comfortable room with a kettle, free tea & coffee, a marvellous little fridge that kept beer & milk beautifully chilled, and also freeview TV. My room was near the front door of the lodge, one of 4 rooms in the same corridor. There were two seperate shared bathrooms with shower & toilet facilities that were cleaned every day, so more than sufficient for the total number of guests. The communal dining room had a microwave, fridge & kettle, and crockery plus cutlery were provided and washed up by Henry. Behind the dining room was attached a conservatory & children's play room, plus an outside seating & eating area. So my 3 night stay at Church Lodge, Grain came to just under £100 for the room with sone self catering facilities. There's no cooker provided, however the microwave was ample for my cooked food requurenents. There are two very nearby supermarkets within easy walking distsnce, including a Co-Op with long opening hrs, a pub serving food, and a fish & chip shop also serving kebabs. Lower Stoke village is a 5 mike drive from Grain and has 2 pubs, a Chinese takeaway and an Indian takeaway, plus another busy fish & chip shop also serving pizza & kebabs. Great place to visit for peace & quiet, no crowds of tourists and a welcome decent nights sleep! Excellent value & amenities- can't go wrong! Steve T 😎

Grain

It was an interesting drive, a bit like a science fiction film. I could see there was something massive and well lit up in the distance. Eventually I found Grain, a village in the middle of nowhere. I found a fish & chip shop. The lodge was quite and nice and I slept well.

Where not to stay.

The pictures of this place are misleading. The rooms are tiny, dank and smell as if the windows hadn't been open for sometime. I declined to stay and left immediately to find a Travelodge. Very disappointed and regret pre-paying for this facility. I honestly feel the host should refund my money!!
