6/10 Good

A weekend in Penzance
A hotel with a glorious past. Still keeps some of it's grandeur although tired in many areas. Keeping a hotel of this size in a good state takes some doing. Varied level of attentiveness from staff, some excellent (reception, bar and Sunday breakfast team during my stay), Saturday breakfast was poorly waited upon. Had to wait for a table to be cleared, then sat for a while unnoticed, had to go back to the desk to ask for service. Eventually food was ok, but they never did bring the toast that I had ordered - I didn't bother them again. Sunday was a total improvement, lovely friendly young lady seated me, and provided me with everything I needed including a smile. Perfect location on the sea edge, town within walking distance.

6/10 Good

Despite the historic building, large rooms, beautiful art nouveau furniture and the spectacular location, there is a lack of charm in the overall atmosphere, but also in the staff. Absolutely amazing sea view, but way to expensive (we paid 240pounds/night in october) for what you get compared to many other less expensive and beautiful hotels we stayed in Cornwall. Not very interested staff, no drinking water in the room, no hot water in the shower, no daily room cleaning, average breakfast. We love old and historic hotels with a lot of patina, not everything has to be perfect, but here the well-being is neglected a bit too much. Strange are the spiritual-Christian advertisements of a group apparently very close to the hotel in the lobby.

8/10 Very good

It is a nice classic historic hotel. Enjoyed the breakfast that was included. It may need a little sprucing up due to age. A negative issue was that it was at least a 20 minute walk to the bus/train station and taxis were not always easy to come by.

Traditional seafront hotel
Comfy room with new bathroom. Service at breakfast was a little slow but ok. Staff all very friendly. Great location and views.
