Wonderful location (a bit remote, but worth it!) and very gracious staff! My family enjoyed our stay here so much and will remember it for years. We especially enjoyed the monkeys, horseback riding, and the food!

Lovely location, just don't take the back road that sends you driving through a creek! Staff and property were lovely, helpful, beautiful. The best food we had our entire stay in Costa Rica! Would recommend to anyone!

We loved our stay here. We saw others who regretted not staying more than one night so we booked 2. It was my kids favorite place of the whole vacation. Next time we will stay even longer. We did the horse riding and also had a farm experience one day. The meals were delicious and the wildlife was stunning. Excellent hosts and staff! Thank you!

Great place to stay.

What a great place to stay, great people, accommodations that keep you comfortable while allowing you to really experience the forest and good food and drinks to cap it all off, wish I'd stayed longer.

Services and the staff are exceptional. We ate breakfast and dinner for two days and loved the food! Thank you Yocky! If you want to stay at a place that feels close to nature, this is it. We saw many birds from our glass-walled cabin. An ant highway ran right outside our door!

I wish I had known about this place before wasting my money somewhere else. Santa María Volcano Lodge is amazing. I stayed here with my two small children, and the experience was excellent. The staff are outstanding—friendly, welcoming, and genuinely caring. I’m 100% sure there’s a lot to do here, and the atmosphere is peaceful, beautiful, and family-friendly. This is the kind of place that makes you want to come back. Highly recommended.

Amazing and tranquil place!

The staff here were super friendly and the cabins were impeccably clean. Had a cozy night in one of the loft cabins. This area of Costa Rica has cooler weather, so you don't have to worry about being too hot. The restaurant staff were warm and welcoming and the food was great. This is an amazing deal for the price. Definitely would recommend!

Beautiful family owned farm property

What an amazing stay! The farm is thriving with wildlife and the plants. There’s so much hiking nearby. Our room was comfortable and cooled off at night. We loved the place so much that we want to come again. Very well maintained and the owners feel like family

We loved our stay at this rustic location. Awesome authentic breakfast and very accommodating and informative hostess, Yocky. For travellers expecting luxury and air conditioning, this is not that experience. It is rural (some dodgy roads to get there), and basic but clean and well maintained cabins. Good hiking in the area.

We loved the remoteness of it, and the friendliness of the lady who served us dinner and breakfast. This is not like a stay in the more touristy parts of Costa Rica like La Fortuna or Monteverde. This is off the beaten path. Its not as close to the Rincon de la Vieja park as we originally thought (1h30 drive time on poor quality roads, in theory there was a straighter distance road but we didn't trust our rental AWD Rav4 would be able to get there).

Absolutely loved the property! Had amazing menu items for breakfast, lunch and dinner. My cabin was super cute and clean. It was so quiet that all I heard while lying in bed were howler monkeys, birds and tree frogs. The staff was so helpful and knew me by name. They even made me a sandwich for a hike I was going on for the day! Horseback riding was a blast and was reasonably priced. Wifi in the common area worked great. My only suggestions would be Wifi in the cabins and hot water but those are extremely minor details for me. The road was a bit rough to get there but that's just Costa Rica. Absolutely would highly recommend this property 100%. It was exactly what I needed, a break from everything!

This place is a hidden gem! The rustic cabins are well maintained and clean. A short walk from the cabin and you arrive at the restaurant where the food is amazing and reasonably priced. The hosts were so nice and helpful, making suggestions for our hikes and other options for dinner (although we ate on site 4 times it was so good). Our kids miss Lucky and Domino and wanted to take the puppies home :-) I would definitely recommend!

We absolutely loved our 4 night stay here!! We stayed at the family cabin, ehich the kids loved as it looked like a treehouse! We took advantage of the horseback riding, the view and tour guide were incredible and if we had another day there, we would have went again. The owners were fantastic with communication before and during iur stay, they even offered to have dinner ready for us upon our late arrival, which made things much easier after a long travel day. The food was so good and so much serviced, we had a hard time finishing everything! On top of the services they offered, they also let the kids go milk cows and provided us with tips ans suggestions we took for local areas ehich was greatly appreciated ♡ i could say so much more about how much we loved it there and would recommend this place to anyone looking to stay in the area, especially with children!!

Staying at Santa Maria Volcano Lodge was one of the warmest and most memorable experiences of my trip. From the start, it felt like staying with extended family rather than at a lodge—the owner and staff were incredibly kind and attentive. On my first night I arrived very late, and they still kept my dinner ready, reheated it, and served it with such care that it set a wonderful tone for the rest of my stay. The lodge is very clean and well maintained, and my cottage was comfortably sized and cozy. The food was excellent for both breakfast and dinner whenever I ate there. The property is set in lush rainforest, with beautiful greenery and many kinds of birds visible right around the cottage, which made each morning special. The lodge is within a reasonable driving distance to nearby facilities and attractions. The last stretch of road—about six to seven miles—is a bit bumpy, but with a decent car it is manageable and absolutely worth it for the peaceful, natural setting and exceptional hospitality. Overall, I had an awesome stay and would highly recommend Santa Maria Volcano Lodge to anyone who wants to enjoy nature and truly heartfelt hospitality.
