The Captaincy Guesthouse Brussels
Wonderful converted house, lovely owner and dog!
This B&B/Hostel was perfect for us. We prefer apartments or B&B rather than hotels for their friendliness and more homely feel, and this was no exception. Karl, the owner, was so warm and friendly, and once she got to know you Oasis his dog was also happy to see you. We took the Superior Double room which is at the top of one side of the house, and it's a very lovely loft conversion, done to wonderful standard. I would point out though that if you're taller than 5'9" then you might not fit under the shower head! We aren't so there was no issue for us at all. I also chose this becuase it was a little out of town, we didn't want to be kept awake from the party goers. There is a very slight road noise, but nothing that kept us awake. The delight you find is that everything in Brussels is very close, and a little walk after a night out in town is just what you need before bed. You can happily walk anywhere from this location, and it's served but two metro stations and a couple of tram stops, so anything further afield is also not a problem. You will also find some of the nicest restaurants in this area too, along with lovely local bars. it's not all about the main square! We would happily stay here again and have already recommended to others. We know this is also a small hostel, and the people staying there seemed to like their rooms too. Certainly, having breakfast together is a lovely way to share stories and ideas.

Spacious shared rooms in typical Brussels street.
The guesthouse is in an old house just outside city centre, in an area with many small local restaurants and cafe's run by a wide range of nationalities. North station is on a 15 minutes walking distances (down hill when you leave). Landlord Karel is a nice guy offering all guests a Monday drink, which is a pleasant way of getting to know the other guests. You'll sleep three in large rooms, with beds spread out in all corners and a joint spacious shower and toilet room shared by six. If you can cope with that and if you're lucky with silent fellow sleepers it is a nice place. If you want a single room you'll have to contact Karel in advance. I'll probably do that as I prefer silence when sleeping. Good breakfasts and coffee though.

Homey feel
Absolutely loved staying here! Had an amazing time and met some great people. This guesthouse is conveniently located and it has a very 'homey' feel. I enjoyed sitting in the garden at night just to relax. If you have the opportunity I'd definitely suggest staying here. You won't regret it.
