Good option as a Ring Road pit-stop

A good pitstop between the Snaefellsnes Peninsula and Myvatn to break up a long drive if traveling the Ring Road. There are some great places to explore nearby on the Vatnsnes peninsula - Hvítserkur (Troll rock), seal colonies, horse farms, and Kolugljúfur Canyon. It is a 10-minute drive outside of the nearest town (Hvammstangi) where you will find restaurants and a supermarket. I stayed in a room with its own bathroom. It was spacious and clean with a comfortable bed. My window faced North and I was able to see the Aurora from my room! A typical Icelandic bathroom - no window, poor ventilation, and a shower with a curtain that doesn’t quite stop water from getting everywhere. But the water was hot and great pressure. I was on the second floor and there is no elevator but I knew that before I booked so was prepared to carry my luggage upstairs. The walls are thin and the floorboards in the hallway are creaky - the fellow guests staying when I was there were luckily quiet though so I wasn't disturbed. The staff member who greeted me was what made my stay excellent. She was welcoming, personable and friendly. She gave me great tips on where I could go, what roads to take (and was genuinely concerned about me driving by myself in winter to some of the locations I wanted to visit) and where to eat. I wish I had taken down her name so I could mention her on here. Overall, I would stay here again and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to others.

Location is right off hwy 1, very convenient. This is more like a bed & breakfast than a hotel. Small rooms, but a relatively large common area. They have a relationship with a restaurant in Hvammstangi that was the best food we had on our trip! Note that the Apple maps app will NOT direct you to the correct location, need to stay on hwy 1, a few km west of turn off to Hvammstangi.

Our room was on the ground floor and the noise from a coach party waiting to go into the restaurant for breakfast woke us up. They were really noisy! Not the hotel's fault but if I were to stay again I would ask for a room away from the restaurant and common lounge area!!!!

This property is a family run horse farm. The hostess was friendly, the rooms were clean and it was a great access point for touring the Vatnsnes Peninsula.

      Horse and a room

It's family owned and runs a side gig of horseback riding. But there's only one trip a day, this is more novelty than riding so if you're advanced you might get bored. The water smelled like Hrevir but no fault of the owners, it's just water sometimes smells like that in Iceland. Regardless my wife refused to shower because of it. It is a guesthouse so it does have shared amenities, including the bathroom. Great variety at breakfast.
