Pleasurable experience and stay The hotel had an updated rustic appearance inside and out. A Nordic touch that was well presented made it personable and functional. Rooms were clean, service was well in line with expectations, and noise level was as quiet as could be. Although the first steps out of the vehicle presented us with a slight bit of a dairy farm smell, the oder did not affect the core of the hotel. Yes there are cows several yards away. The town is walking distance from the hotel and has a grocery store, hardware store, and restaurants. We made the mistake of visiting the town to eat when we should have ate at the restaurant at the hotel.

Hotel restaurant--top notch. What an innovative chef! Meals were unique and now legendary. Tale of 2 rooms. Single room: top floor; so, so hot. Iceland will someday come around to placing individual AC units in *the* rooms that get the 23.5 hours of sunlight and heat. Curtains block out light but turn the room into an inferno. SUCH a nice place, but I doubt I'm the only traveler whose room was an oven in summer. The fan was nice, but not helpful. Deluxe Room: ground floor, shaded with trees, completely lovely, super comfortable in amenities AND temperature. Again, the hotel knows which few rooms are NOT this way. What a lovely place. I hate that our second room was miserable as it gave two totally polarizing opinions of this hotel. Plan with care.

This hotel is one of my favourite places to stay in Iceland. The room was quite spacious, the beautiful spa facilities meant we could relax after a long time of being in the car. We’ve stayed here twice now and would definitely come back should we return to Iceland. The lake behind the hotel is beautiful and we were lucky enough to see the northern lights there! Amazing place, definitely recommend.

We had the most charming stay a the Lake Hotel Gistihusid in Eglisstadir. The room triple room felt like a full on apartment- it was spacious, modern, and cozy. We enjoyed access to the onsite Spa. The staff was responsive and friendly to all of our requests. Breakfast was a highlight- many options, with a lot of Icelandic influence. We dined at the restaurant for two evenings. We found the food delicious and very good value in comparison to other restaurant hotels we ate at in Iceland. Overall this was our best value stay in all of Iceland. We will definitely return to this hotel on our next tour of East Iceland.
