We just weren't charmed.
I hate to be the person going against the grain here, but we didn't love this place. And we're not that picky. The room was small and decorated with some odd cheap items like a vinyl flag and a long list of odd rules, like which washcloths to use for which purpose. The WiFi wasn't working in part of the property and instead of giving us a room where it did work, we were expected to go without. The room faced a (loud) major thoroughfare and didn't seem to have a way to keep out the streetlights. We were charged more than the room and tax and spent a lot of time resolvng that situation--check in took almost 30 minutes, and during that time our luggage was sitting out in the rain per request of the host. We had tried to resolve this prior to our arrival, but got no reasponse to our email questioning the charge. But my biggest concern was the hazards which seem to be unregulated. Your key is needed to exit your room, and the locks can misbehave. The floor was uneven and ripped up a toenail. There are overloaded power strips running throughout the rooms and a lack of fire escape from the room itself, with that risk magnified by the fuel nailed to every surface--tapestries and rugs on every wall. While the chance of a fire during your stay is tiny, if it does happen, your means of getting out are purposefully diminished. We've stayed in a lot of funky NOLA guesthouses, and I'm still baffled why this one scores as well as it does. Loved the location, though.

a unique taste of New Orleans
I discovered this place after Katrina and have returned to it on every visit since. It is like a home away from home, definitely not a chain hotel experience, the owners are the sweetest couple. The rooms all unique have a lovely , mysterious aura tho balcony rooms simpler and more hotellike if that is your preference.Breakfast served in lovely dining room with a huge banana chandelier. Lovely front porch where I always enjoy relaxing after I return for the night, listen to the tiny but vocal frogs chirping away while I browse a book from the dining room collection .Mardi Gras costumes and tons of interesting ephemera on display in the common areas--and most rooms. A lovely stay.
