Algoma getaway
Stayed for two nights on a fishing vacation. Staff are incredibly helpful and friendly. Unfortunately the normally excellent restaurant was open for take out only but food was still great. They provided us with complementary bagged breakfasts which was a nice touch as well as well as complementary morning coffee. Frank, the owner, gave us bags for our fish and took care of disposal of the entrails. The whole operation is Covid aware and extremely clean and careful.

okay housekeeping unit
We stayed 3 nights in one of the 2 housekeeping units. They were reasonably well equipped for making most of our breakfast & dinner meals. The main downside for us was the "Lodge" is right on the highway and part of a gas station, store and motel complex. So not terribly homey. Unfortunately, the restaurant had recently re-closed due to the pandemic. The reception staff were friendly and tried to make the stay enjoyable, for example with complimentary coffee. Batchewana Beach is right across the highway and great for a long beach walk.

The rooms were clean, almost time for a complete update, but that would take away from the Voyageur feel of the place. Just walk across the road and you are on the beach of Lake Superior.

Good 6.0
Like: The accomodations were good, but a bit pricey; comfortable beds, fridge and microwave, bathroom was very basic, but clean. nice view of bay and not too noisy despite being right on highway. Not good: In normal times, I probably would have little to criticize and while I know covid changes things, it is not really too hard to inform us in advance. We were unhappy to learn that the cookhouse was only open 1130-7 on the days we were there. This is different from what is listed when you look online and there is nothing on the website about covid changes, which is quite common these days and very helpful. They did provide complimentary coffee and an ok"breakfast in a bag" , which for most would be more than usual. but it was too many carbs and my husband is diabetic so it left us having to scramble to find the one restaurant in 100 miles that was open for breakfast. It would have also been helpful to have info about how to look after towels and garbage without having to search it out ourselves. We assumed no housekeeping as this was in other hotels.Upon checking in,we were informed that the kitchen closed at 6:30, shortly after we arrived, so once again we had to make a quick decision about dinner. It is easier to plan when you know what's what before arrival. They closed at 7 pm each night; turning out all the signage lights and we arrived back one night and missed the entrance. We also had no contact info should something have happened after they were closed. .
