Not bad

Is not good to knock the door and remind the customer to check out just before check out time as they are busy packing as they have been advised the check our time when check in. So the hostel should believe their customers would make it on time as a respondsibility.

The hostess was very attentive. The place was very clean. Air conditioning an small fridge. We needed to take shoes off before entering the room, which was small, but with hair dryer, toothbrush, 2 small packs of toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner & body wash (in bathroom)). No shower curtain (but is a costume in a lot of the hotels in Korea). Small room, but good very good for the price.

Basic homestay in terrific area

Mr. Kim was very friendly. The location was super convenient to the subway station, restaurants, nightlife and shopping. I didn't experience the breakfast as it was only offered for 1 hour starting at 9am and I was always out for the day by then. The room was basic as expected. I was pleasantly surprised that the windows were wonderful at keeping out the noise, light and smells in the busy area of Sinchon. Unfortunately the alley is used day and night by smokers so you have to walk through that every time you come and go, but that isn't really something Mr. Kim can control, I guess. I would make two suggestions. Offer breakfast for more than just one hour from 9-10am. And put a no smoking near door sign up in the alley.

No-frills

It’s definitely a no-frills guesthouse as mentioned. The location is good. Extremely near to the Subway and Hyundai Shopping Mall. However once you enter, it look like a place from the 90s. The place smells a little weird and the washroom drain is clogged up. After a few minutes of shower, the floor is flooded. Not sure why the bed made me itch within a few minutes. Ultimately, it’s reslly cheap so you pay for what you get.

Good location, but difficult for mobility-impaired

Good location near Sinchon subway station and the Hyundai Department Store, but difficult to access for those that are mobility-impaired and those who cannot climb narrow stairs. Also, note that water pressure is very low and showering will take a very long time.

Amazing location in Sinchon, but old building

This is a guesthouse with an amazing location, located right behind Hyundai Department Store in Sinchon. However, it may be a bit difficult to find because it is in an alleyway behind the building. The guesthouse has three floors, and if you are in a room at the top floor, it might be difficult for mobility-restricted individuals or people with heavy luggages as there is no elevator (only narrow stairs to go up the building). I was given a room at the 3F, and take note, water pressure in the shower is very, very, very low. It takes forever to take a shower. The owner knows about this, but not much can be done because this is an old building. The owner is nice, though. Also, bugs were in the room. It is unfortunate because for old buildings in Seoul in summer, this is quite common.

Best place to stay that I've found so far

I'm a pretty frequent traveler and vacationer to Korea, I have been a total of 9 times since 2011, and have stayed at a variety of places great, good, and bad. I booked the Kimstay just the same way as I had always booked, but turned out very pleased by the stay. First off, the location is great, convenient to subway, but also the area there is awesome (plenty of young people, underground shopping, nice mall, and caffe/restaurants, and it is a far deal less expensive from the more expensive hotspots like Gangnam, Itaewon, etc... I don't enjoy hostels, although I have been to a few good ones. Typically hotels run by younger male proprietors in Korea don't have the friendliest staff, but Mr. Kim is a huge exception I found, one who is highly welcoming of guests, especially those who are interested in and fascinated by Korean society and culture as I have become. The room I stayed in was just big enough for one person or a couple (or really good friends) - although I think different rooms are offered. Shower is good, didn't appear nasty or smell or anything. I stayed in January and am going right back there for when I go next month.
