So cold it felt like we were camping
My husband decided to take me away for a surprise overnight stay ( kid free) to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We checked in which was fine and went up to our room, it was freezing ( there was snow outside) we dropped our bags and left for dinner. On returning the room was yet again freezing - only A/C, so we yanked it up to 29o for a blast of heat before turning it down to a suitable overnight temperature. It said it would take 3-5mins to heat up. We waited cuddled up on bed, myself fully clothed as it was to cold to undress. It did not heat up, my husband suggested reporting it but by then it was midnight and we were to cold to move and couldn’t be doing with waiting round for someone and being disturbed, so we settled down and attempted to sleep ( still clothed). We woke a few times from turning in bed and letting cold air in - I compared the feeling to sleeping rough, my husband was slightly more complimentary and compared the temperature to that of being on a tent. He gave up sometime after 5am put some layers on and was down speaking to reception staff about it by just after 6am. Alan - the man behind the desk was most helpful and apologetic, explaining that there is no heating on in the rooms until you put it on once checked in, he also said that the A/C does not work above 28o and so we would have had no heat. Attempts were made to no avail, we then encountered Daniel the manager who was extremely curt, and of no help what so ever. We left before 8 am.

This place does not live up to the Hilton standards (at least those that I am accustomed to in the US). The following are things that were misrepresented in the listing: 1) The description said I was getting a family room. I did not. ALL ROOLS ARE IDENTICAL AND SMALL. 2) The room said "queen bed", it was not. There was a SMALL double bed. 3) The second bed was a pull out (couch) and was less comfortable then sleeping on the floor. There was a bar that ran through it. 4) The heater did not work well. I set it to 22c and it never got that warm (15c to 16c) verified by my own thermometer. 5) The TV turned on with an alarm at 6:30am WITHOUT BEING SET. Things that were not in the control of the hotel, but made for a bad stay: Some younger collage age guests were staying two rooms down from us. They let out the fire extinguisher, releasing powder in the hall. They were also partying at midnight, yelling, drinking, and whatever else we all did at that age. The result is that my very tired travel warn family did not get what we paid for, a good night of rest.

Good 6.0
Very disorganized and understaffed hotel
Check in was ok but we had to wait a little while due to the amount of people wanting something from the front desk where only one employee was working. After check in, we went for dinner in the hotel restaurant. It took us 15 minutes to order at the bar as the server was not only taking orders but also serving food, cleaning up tables, etc. We were advised that food would not be ready before 1h15 min ! Due to the lack of choice of restaurant in the area, we had to eat there (we had no car). Food arrived staggered on a 15 minutes period. Mine arrived 1h45 minutes after my order ! It was not even busy, only 12 customers were in the restaurant at the time. Again, no other option was avail. My food was good but my friend's burger was definitely not up to the standard we could expect. Employees did their best and worked hard but they were totally swamped and understaffed. Pure management oversight in my opinion. Hotel is otherwise very clean and rooms are nice and big. Fix the personnel issue and it will be a nice place to stay !

Very good 8.0
Very poor breakfast service
The major problem we had was with breakfast. Two of our party were in the breakfast room at 9.15am, and there was very little hot food, but a lot of people waiting. When the other two came down at 9.30am there was even less with no pastries either. No-one was at the serving bay, so we went to reception to ask why there was no hot food. The manager said there should be plenty of food, and that there should have been a server there to talk to, but she would go and ask. We waited until 9.45am but still the same hot food there. Eventually a staff member came out and told us that as breakfast stopped at 10am they wouldn't make anymore! No apologies! The staff then started closing the doors to the breakfast area!

Exceptional 10.0
Review Hampton by Hilton Aberdeen
Lovely clean hotel in excellent decorative order with large car park. Room was large and comfortable with central heating/air con, safe, tv, kettle, iron, and loads of plugs. Nice clean bathroom with all the toiletries you could need and the walk in shower was amazing. Free breakfast was delicious and catered for every taste from cereal, fruit, pastries, cooked breakfast and even make your own waffles. Staff at reception were very helpful and there was a bar with snacks and they also did evening meals which we didn't have so can't comment on. Was also a gym on the first floor. Only downside is the area around the hotel which looks like its still to be developed but there was a garage next door with a little local shop and a nice pub 5 min walk away. Its around 20 min drive into the centre of Aberdeen. Hotel was very reasonably priced and would def stay again if we are in that area.
