Good 6.0
Stayed for one night and unfortunately the room didn't look like any in the images. There has obviously been some refurb of some of the rooms, but not the one I was allocated. It was very tired looking, black marks all over skirting boards and walls, there was also a large stain down the wall where a previous guest has spilled something. The corridors to the rooms are also very dated and there is a lot of kitsch clutter about. The staff were very helpful and friendly, but I was disappointed that the refurb obviously hadn't extended to the room I was given. For that reason I don't think I would return.

Poor 2.0
Poor service and wrong information
On the website it says standard bed but it’s never the same because the beds are just little bit bigger than a single size bed. Barely a couple can sleep in the bed that’s how small it is. Asked them to change the room if possible but was told to pay more money to upgrade to a room with a bigger bed. Still the bigger bed was two single bed attached together without being secured means it start splitting in the middle of the bed so really truly it’s two single bed not a double bed. I asked the lady at the reception that online its showing a bigger bed but on their system it’s a smaller one and she seemed a bit angry just because I asked the question. Been there quite few times before but it was never smaller size bed but she was very adamant that it was when I showed her the pictures of the room on my phone. she did not believe it at all. So in a way she saying that myself as a customer I am wrong and she’s right even thought i showed her the pictures on my phone from previous booking. In the end I had to pay premium price just to upgrade to a different room with a bigger bed which was a splited single bed because they both wear a single bed put together Without being secured with anything together. Not worth the money so will not return again.don’t waste your money or just confirm before you go there. She said she is the manager but didn’t know how to amend the booking to upgrade to a bigger room on the website which seems a bit odd. Also one mattress was higher than other

Victorian charm in a lovely friendly hotel
Lovely hotel with lots of character. It looks like a Victorian vicarage and has original features, such as tiled floors and wonderful ceilings. There are quirky decorations everywhere, very interesting. Each room is different, so our party's rooms ranged from a 4 poster bed with library books wallpaper to a 3 room suite with a rhino and nautical decor! Bland corporate rooms these are not! Would highly recommend for the welcoming friendly staff, cosy lounge and bar and delicious food in the restaurant ( very popular so do make a reservation to avoid disappointment ). We were a family group of 11 and the hotel stay transformed a sad occasion into a celebration. A good base for exploring the surrounding area and with nice gardens outside as well for sunny days. Bring your sense of fun, appreciate the attentive staff and enjoy a stay with a difference!

I'll be back
What a hidden treasure! Driving up the driveway overhung with greenery to this lovely old mansion immediately brought back childhood memories of watching "Tom's Midnight Garden" on TV. Peaceful, quiet and removed from the stress of the 21st century, Rosehill House, built in 1856, sits in calm seclusion in gardens created with a view to tranquillity. On arrival, I was greeted warmly. My room was delightful, on the ground floor looking onto ivy covered walls and lush gardens. I was very happy to see that the walls of the corridors approaching my room were covered with bookcases full of a quirky assortment of books from the 19th century onwards. Maigret was there, along with Dickens, Tolley's tax law and mining manuals. You won't find that in your average chain. I decided to dine in and wasn't sorry. Main course was huge and couldn't finish it. This was RIDICULOUSLY good value for money. It's not often that you would consider holidaying somewhere just because of a particular hotel, but I'll be going back to Rosehill House.

Old fashioned charm with excellent service
An amazing old house with lots of original features and friendly approachable staff. There is a well stocked bar and a great choice of food in the restaurant or bar. Guest wifi was not great in my room sonext time I would enquire about their business wifi. This is the only area that I felt could of been improved, everything else made for a comfortable enjoyable stay. I was a little confused at first in my room as could not find the kettle, tea & coffee , it was in the wardrobe! along with a hairdryer and iron making a well provided bedroom. Loved my stay and would return.
