Great hotel. First class service. Amazing sleep!
I stay in London once a week and try new hotels when something catches my eye and is in budget. I’ve been told about Curtain hotel and have been to their rooftop bar previously. Check in wasn’t easy and the front of desk lady was pleasant and talkative. My room was clean and there was a hand written note from the manager, I really nice touch. There was fresh fruit and milk, cookies and shortbread. The room was clean. The bed one of the comfiest I’ve ever slept in. The bathroom was incredible...grand, clean and beautiful. It sounds odd but the bathroom and shower are so nice and the double tap/single sink set up would be good for couples. I ordered room service as the connecting restaurants had very few and not great ratings. The front of desk lady brought this too me and was pleasant again. I’m a big fan. The gym looks great but I was too tired to go and use it unfortunately. I really enjoyed this hotel. It was very clean. Staff were great. The bed was amazing and the bathroom was too. A very nice home away from home. My only gripe was that I never got sent my bill/invoice which was supposed to go to my email. This means a phone call for me and is annoying.

Set in the heart of shoreditch, The Curtain does not disappoint in its vibrant, eccentric styling. On check-in we were greeted by friendly, enthusiastic staff who were eager to help in ensuring that we were fully aware of all of the various facilities and features available for use within the hotel during our stay. The decor in the room lived up to expectation of the industrial/punk with modern undertones. The minibar was more than adequately stocked, and there was a nice drawer full of sweet things to feast on with good variety to choose from. The shower was clean and bright, but didnt get as hot as I would have liked. The knobs for controlling the shower were loose which doesnt scream attention to detail. The door to the bathroom had been replaced by a sliding panel (for style) which didnt provide a mass of privacy in close proximity to the bedroom area. During the night, we noticed that a severe amount of dust was airborne in the room, and due to our room being on the same level as an adjacent roof, we were unable to ooen the windows which were “locked for our safety”and I did struggle to sleep in the stuffy environment. We opted for breakfast in our room and it arrived within 30 mins, however it was cold and looked as if it may have already been sat under the heat for some time, this was also the same of the tea and coffee and in the end we opted to use the in room kettle. Communication with the hotel regarding these issues is on-going.

Very good 8.0
Room service team were exceptional, breakfast was good and the people that brought it up were delightful! The room was small but nice, really lovely bathroom. Tea and coffee provided were ok, didn't like the milk in little plastic packets. Mini bar unbelievably expensive. If you open the window you get wailing noise under the door, next room over complained about noise but we actually didn't have any problems with noise from other rooms. Green room expensive with slow service and average cocktails. Nice coffee in the Lido but view somewhat disappointing. Don't expect to swim, the pool is so tiny and open to public, we didn't expect this and it doesn't really work as it becomes crowded and unpleasant. We didn't get the VIP benefits we expected, spa too busy to use the single voucher we were given but not much use anyway as we were there for our first anniversary and wanted to be together! It would have been great to get a room upgrade or something but not offered. I think we would go elsewhere for a special occasion in future.

Nice but not for me...
Firstly the receptionists cannot be faulted - welcoming and accommodating. I'd been wanting to try this hotel for a while at the right price and I am glad I have been but I won't be returning. Whilst every care and attention has been given to the decor, both rooms I tried smelled of stale smoke and I don't think its the decor - which is looks opulent such as leather seats etc. It's clearly a place where parties happen, very trendy and for me just a little bit too pretentious. I was given a card to the members bar but didn't go and I didn't look at the bar on the roof, it wasn't that sort of visit I just wanted warmth and comfort. I originally had a room on the 1st floor even after asking for a quiet room and originally booked a courtyard room which I assumed would be quiet and was kindly upgraded but it backfired, as I could hear the thud of the music in the members bar so they kindly moved me to the 5th floor - underneath the other there was some bumps and moves from upstairs but it didn't disturb me too much. I found the room temperature cold, had to sleep in one of the bathrobes and put one on the bed. Room service was excellent, I had all veggie dishes and it was the best room service I have had. All in all very grand decor but I prefer the Montcalm / the Dorsett as a bit cosier still opulent but not so try hard...

Could do better
My daughter paid for me to stay the night and I was really looking forward to it. The room was on the small side but clean and tastefully decorated. The downside was I had to keep the curtains drawn as I could see into the rooms opposite me, and vice versa. The bed was extremely comfortable but I struggled to fall asleep as I was in room 330 which is above the courtyard. It was a rainy night, and I could hear each rain drop hit the roof of the courtyard which was irritating and kept me awake most of the night. This was annoying as I had work the next day. The other downside is the lack of satellite tv channels. As someone that struggles with borderline OCD, (pertaining to cleanliness), I was unable to have a cup of tea as the teabags are loose and not wrapped. I will end on a positive and thanks you for the bottled water. I also thoroughly enjoyed having cocktails in the rooftop bar on Sunday night.
