Good 6.0
Very helpful staff but some things need improving.
I arrived late (10:15pm) as I got lost in the narrow street and 1-way system. the staff were good enough to wait and let me in before leaving. I was given a "Resident" parking permit and had to look for an empty space along rhe nearby streets, no mean feat on a Sunday evening when most local residents are home. My room was the standard double room on 1st floor overlooing a little courtyard on the Little Minster side. Whilst the room was comfortable and a good range of amenities were provided, some of the fixtures were a bit tired. The joint above the shower head had a leak and produced a fine spray over the top of the shower screen. When I finished showering, the bathroom floor was drenched and I had to mop the floor with the floor mat and spare towels. The beddings were very nice and l had a good sleep. However, I was woken up at 7am as staff opened up downstairs, probably putting down chairs from table tops onto the wooden floor and moving them around, and chatting. This was a minor irritation but it was probably time to get up anyway and so, not a big deal. A good range of food was on offer for breakfast and they were freshly made. However, the "full English" was really no better than a motorway Little Chef - the bacon was very dry and salty, the sausage was tasteless, the finely cut mushrooms were greasy and the rubbery poached eggs look like they came out of a plastic mould. Overall, the staff were great but there are a few things to improve.

No complaints but expensive for what it is
The location is central and great for exploring the city. The building is old and full of character, as evidenced by the uneven and sloping floors. The room was large, as was the bathroom, and the bed was comfortable. Although there were no complaints regarding the stay, it was not cheap and I'm not sure that it was worth the price tag of £200 per night.

Disappointing stay as plumbing issues!!
This rating is due to a plumbing issue in the Nina Campbell room that could not be resolved during our one night stay. Basically, the wash basin was unusable as it was blocked. Although the staff did try to fix it using a plunger and chemicals, it made it worse as all the gunk came up through the drain and filled up the washbasin, which was disgusting and an unpleasant sight. This caused immense inconvenience as we expected to have a working wash basin for our stay, particularly as we had a young child with us. Secondly, although the bath tap water was hot, the shower water temperature only reached luke warm and not suitably warm enough for a comfortable shower. In the morning, there was also what appeared to be a leak in the ceiling, above the toilet, which pooled on the floor. On a separate note, we were presented with a credit card bill for an amount which was more than double the room rate that we had paid for via hotels.com. This was alarming to say the least! It transpired that this was the rate charged by The Old Vine to hotels.com and not our discounted rate. There was no need for that bill to be presented to us, as this just caused confusion when we queried it. Whilst the staff were apologetic upon check out, and they acknowledged that they did have a similar issue before, what we would have expected, as good customer service, was some form of financial compensation for not being able to use the facilities that were paid for.
