Cozy getaway, luxurious without being pretentious
Friendly and helpful staff, great Cumbrian breakfast to start the day. Peaceful location off the beaten track, but not too remote. The lounge areas are lovely for relaxing after a day out walking, and feel more like a country house than a hotel.

Spotlessly clean gr8 location shame about the bed
The hotel is fantastic. Spotlessly clean, higly attentive staff and perfect location for viditing the lakes. The restaurant is closed Sunday evening and Monday but there is a multitude of good restaurants and pubs within a short drive and a good one in the village. The hitel provides fluffy clean towels and dressing gowns a small shampoo and shiwer gel with a good shower and wash facilities. However, the bed is a small diuble bed that was like lying on a hard lump. Neither me nor my husband slept a wink. Please consider upgrading your mattresses. A 5 star hotel let down by a 1 star bed.

Beautiful hotel, beautiful location
Looking for accommodation in the Lakes we found a deal with this hotel. We were delighted with the stay overall, particularly the service. The staff were all very attentive and obliging without being intrusive. It is a former Georgian residence that has been tastefully and sympathetically converted, lacking only the modern convenience of a lift. Also, in our case, the route to our room was rather rambling and there were a few short stair runs to traverse. However we were compensated with a view out of the front aspect which was stunning and which we enjoyed every evening after dinner from the lovely terraced front garden, having after dinner drinks kindly brought to us by cheerful staff. The location of the hotel is both tranquil, standing alone in a rural setting, and convenient, being centrally located for many of the major beauty spots and places of interest. Only a few minor points detract from a 100% score. Next time we will ask for a bigger bed, also hopefully with a softer mattress. Cleanliness was excellent everywhere so we were therefore surprised to find a single pill on the carpet almost under the bed, which was not one of ours. An excellent selection of breakfasts is offered and we also dined in every evening (except Monday evening when the dining room is closed). The dinner menu was excellent and the food was well cooked and presented. It did not change throughout the week. Onion rings were missing the second time we had steak, although stated on the menu.

Our third visit!
Very relaxing stay, from the afternoon tea and cake provided on arrival to a great home cooked optional dinner. The owners and staff really work hard to make it a special experience. Location is good with easy access to visitor attractions in Northumberland.
