Mountain and meadow views, campfires, and wildlife on a 10-acre property. Centrally located to major attractions and less than a mile from Highway 16 (mostly gravel and well-maintained), offers the best of both worlds – easy access as well as peace and tranquility. Open year round. Our cabins are 5⭐️rated.

If cabin #4 is already booked for your travel dates, please check out our other two-bedroom cabins #1 and #3 (Vrbo properties 741537 and 741538) We also have a studio cabin with a full kitchen and bathroom as well as the other amenities offered in our other cabins.

Our cabins feature the work of local craftsmen and artisans. Many local and sustainable materials were used in the construction of the cabins. Vintage decor and quality furnishings provide rustic charm and comfortable surroundings for your stay in the Black Hills.

Centrally located in the Black Hills just 3/4 mile from Highway 16 we offer the best of both worlds – easy access as well as peace and tranquility. Yak Ridge is only a short drive from Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer State Park, Sheridan Lake, Pactola Reservoir, Mickelson Trail, 1880 Train, Bear Country, Reptile Gardens, caves, museums, dining, shopping, and many many other area attractions.
Enjoy beautiful mountain and meadow views. Wildlife abounds on our ten-acre property. Frequent guests include deer, songbirds, turkeys, hawks, and chipmunks. Occasionally bald eagles, elk, coyotes, owls, marmots, and fox also visit the property. Yak Ridge is located at an elevation of 5,000 feet providing for cool evenings and star-studded skies.

We acquired the property in 2014 and named it Yak Ridge in honor of our small yak herd and for the hillside's resemblance to the ridge on the back of a yak. The farmstead is home to honey bees, chickens, and even a small herd of Himalayan yaks.
Yak Ridge is located on the west central edge of Eagle Mountain recognizable by its rock outcrop peak. Bald Eagles have historically nested in the area and are often seen soaring the skies.

During Prohibition, our corner of the Ranch was known as Whiskey Gulch. Remnants of old bootlegger roads and the spring that cooled the whiskey still can be found on Forest Service property adjacent to Yak Ridge.
Looking for additional space? Yak Ridge also offers two other 2-bedroom cabin, which sleeps up to 6, and a studio cabin which sleeps up to 4 and allows Yak Ridge to accommodate a total of 22 guests. Visit properties 713096, 741537, and 741538 for details. Guest stay are limited to a maximum of 14 nights.

Cleaning and Sanitizing Protocols
As always, the health, safety, and comfort of our guests are our highest priorities. We pride ourselves in the cleanliness of our cabins as evident by our guest reviews and our commitment to meeting and exceeding South Dakota Department of Health requirements. To that end, and in light of the current global health crisis, we have further enhanced our cleaning and sanitizing protocols which also align with the CDC.
We appreciate the hard work of our public health officials in their efforts to develop and deliver vaccines. Based on current estimates for a lengthy timeframe for herd immunity to be established, and the emergence of variants, we plan to continue our COVID protocols throughout the 2021 season and will continue to monitor CDC guidelines and public health updates so that we can make adjustments to our protocols as needed.

We are dedicated to minimizing the risks associated with COVID-19. Many of our practices have been a part of our cleaning and sanitizing protocols for years, and even though these efforts have expanded, we never charge service or cleaning fees. Highlights of our protocols between guest stays include but are not limited to the following:
• Self Check-in is Contact-free with personalized key code access
• Cleaning Crews wear masks and disposable gloves, and practice good hand hygiene.
• Cleaning products meet EPA and CDC guidelines.
• Cabins are ventilated for a minimum of five hours between guests (usually more).
• High touch and solid surfaces are cleaned and sanitized. These including counters, floors, tables, kitchen and bathroom fixtures, appliances, handles, drawer pulls, window latches, faucets, keycode pads, TVs, remotes, light/lamp switches, towel racks, thermostats, etc.
• All bed, bath, and kitchen linens are laundered and sanitized in hot water between guests. Those linens include quilts, sheets, blankets, throws, pillow protectors, mattress protectors, shower curtains and liners, towels, tablecloths, placemats, and hot pads.
• Trash cans, brooms, and dustpans are also sanitized.
• Cleaning products and tools are also cleaned and disinfected.
• Guests are provided with a complimentary welcome kit which includes sanitized slippers, as well as travel sized hand sanitizer, Kleenex, and sanitizing wipes. Also included are local travel information and maps. Even a few postcards to send to friends and family are provided.
• We provide self (no contact) check-in and check-out for the convenience of our guests and to maintain social distancing.
• And last but not least, we have plenty of individually wrapped rolls of toilet paper for our guests!

Animal/Pet Policy
Although we love animals, pets/guest animals are NOT permitted at Yak Ridge at any time for the safety of your animals, other guests, local wildlife, our farm animals, our cleaning crew, and for minimizing allergens for future guests. The only exception is for bona fide service dogs which must meet ADA requirements. Guests with disabilities recognized through ADA who wish to bring a service animal to Yak Ridge must complete a Guest Service Animal Registration Application at the time of booking. Reservations for guests that violate our Pet/Animal policy will be cancelled, without refund, and will be charged a minimum of a $500 penalty/cleaning fee. Contact Julie for additional information and to obtain Yak Ridge Guest Service Animal Registration Application if you have a bona fide service animal which meets ADA requirements that you wish to bring on your travels.
