About this property

Stay in a three-bedroom house on our 11 acre organic farm in Seven Miles, Cayo, Belize, in the foothills of the Mountain Pine Ridge. Each bedroom has a private bathroom with hot water, while downstairs there's a well equipped kitchen, airy dining room and comfy sitting room with library. We have free wifi, mountain bikes available for you to use, hiking trails on our property to the summit of Checo Hill, and are available to help organise outings and adventures in the nearby area.

Downstairs you have access to an airy screened dining room, a well equipped self catering kitchen, and a comfortable lounge with a selection of books (including wildlife reference books). The sitting and dining rooms have ceiling fans to keep things cool during the day. The entire building is well screened against mosquitoes - of which we have very few in any case!

The kitchen includes everything you need to cook for yourselves - although we don't have a microwave, as our solar power system can't support it. You'll find a good selection of pots and pans, dishes, etc. in the kitchen, as well as a double sink with hot water, a small refrigerator and a six-burner stove and oven. The kitchen is always stocked with the essentials: tea, Guatemalan coffee, salt and sugar, etc. And if you're feeling a little more adventurous you could try making some herbal tea from plants we grow on the farm!

All the bedrooms are upstairs: two (sleeping 3 and 4 people each) are accessed from a veranda along the front of the building with views towards the Mountain Pine Ridge, while the Bridge Room (sleeping 2) is accessed from the rear via a bridge from the forested hillside behind the building and has a more jungly outlook. Each bedroom has a private bathroom with hot shower.

We're located a few minutes walk from the centre of the village of Seven Miles, where you'll find a small shop selling essential groceries, and a couple of places to eat.

We can provide advice and info on things to do in the area, including hooking you up with experienced local guides where necessary.

Our farm is mostly off grid and we use solar power for electricity.

We're seven miles off the George Price (formerly Western) Highway, the main road connecting Belize City to San Ignacio and Guatemala. It's easiest to get here if you have a hire car (or motorcycle - great offroad biking around here!) as there's no public transport to the village, but we can arrange to pick you up in San Ignacio (45 minutes), Georgeville (30 minutes, on the highway) or San Antonio (20 minutes, served by regular buses from San Ignacio) for a small fee.

We have some mountain bikes available for your use - handy for exploring the local area, and a lot of fun up in the Mountain Pine Ridge! - and can provide maps of the surroundings.

We have a trail network extending across the entire farm, including to the summit of Checo Hill itself, where you get spectacular views of the Mountain Pine Ridge and the surrounding area. On a clear day you can see Belmopan, and on a really clear day you can see the Rio Bravo escarpment in Orange Walk District!

We have excellent birdwatching on the property: the mosaic of farmland and forest in the area supports a high diversity of birds, and we occasionally see birds that you'd only usually see in the nearby Mountain Pine Ridge. You'll see a great selection of birds from the veranda at the front of the guesthouse or the bridge to the

rear.

There is a 9% Belize Tourism Board tax to pay on arrival.

    Amazing experience!

The guest house on Checo Hill Farm is great, and the surrounding environment is awe inspiring. Close to the Mountain Pine Ridge and the quaint village of Seven Miles/El Progresso. The hospitality is second to none, and the scenery is breathtaking. Ask host Kate to give you a tour of the farm, and especially the hilltop. Breakfast was also delicious. Just know, the farm runs on solar power and there is no A/C. If you are looking for a relaxing, local experience, Checo Hill Farm is for you.
