Let down

Having stayed in Riu hotels through the world to many times to count I chose this one for my husbands 70 birthday. Hotel excellent and very busy . Great location, breakfast a little confusing but due to Covid restrictions. I booked the delux king with terrace overlooking the city ! that’s where we were let down room absolutely brilliant and very large terrace overlooking building work which we were not told about that was going all day so couldn’t sit out nor could we leave the balcony doors open due to the rat a tat tat going all afternoon !! Sadly this was a disappointment as only once in all our years going to Riu 3/4 times a year have we had a complaint this sadly was the second . The views from the 360 bar where lovely but as they let none residents in for a charge it was full of youngsters on their nights out so was rather rowdy but still worth a visit !!

Disappointingly Below Expections

Our deluxe room (King) was described as having "City views", upon arriving in the room there was no 'City view' it faced onto another room, no view of anything other than concrete. We went to reception to request the room we had booked to be told, I am sorry that category doesn't exist and we are full. I had to request to speak to a manager and after some 40 minutes we were allocated a different room that did have a view of the city. Beware, they allocate you a breakfast slot - ours was 7.30am! We ignored it and went to breakfast when it suited us.Breakfast offering is great. The pool and sunbathing area is very small, you are allocated a 90 mins slot and exepct to be put on a waitlist. They have a securtiy guard at the pool who needs customer service training. It has the feel of a hotel that has only been open a few weeks and hasn't found its rythm yet, requests don't get actioned. It should be amazing but that wasn't our experience.

We had fail on electricity And no air condition Cleaning has not been performed because we Stayed in the room for all our journey No coffees or water provided it was necessary to make n numbers of call for Bottle of water Very poor services Plus we wasn’t capable to have any drinks put on the room was necessary immediately payment as we felt very uncomfortable and untrustworthy which isn’t good

There is active construction activities on site! Drilling 10 hours a day! This is a construction site! Dirty dusty entrance! No one care or help on hotel door! They are standing there and absolutely do nothing! Reception never answer phone Please do not book this until construction site and drilling finish!

Fantastic stay

My husband and I enjoyed 5 days in the Riu Plaza Espana. We were slightly apprehensive about staying in any hotel due to Covid-19 but the hotel were really well prepared. The hotel was super clean, with lots of measures in place to ensure the safety of both guests and staff. The buffet breakfast was fantastic, with all items individually wrapped and guests required to wear gloves. We were given an upgraded room with a fantastic view of both Plaza Espana and Gran Via. The view was second only to the panoramic views offered by the rooftop terrace. We felt very fortunate to have access to the 360 rooftop bar (the queues were down the street for non residents!) The hotel’s location is great, with most points of interest within walking distance. The staff could not have been friendlier or more helpful. We will definitely not stay anywhere else in Madrid in future.

Excellent new hotel in the heart of Madrid.

Excellent, brand new hotel in an historical building in one of the best locations at the heart of Madrid. Comfortable, clean, spacious rooms with everything you may need. Any person entering the hotel is submitted to a very strict protocol (hand and feet disinfection and thermal camera scan) for COVID-19. Sames measures plus the use of disposable gloves are applied to anybody having breakfast. All food is packed to avoid contact. Any manipulation (serving yourself coffee, etc.) must be done with disposable plastic gloves that continuously exchanged. Every precaution and measure is taking in the hotel for the safety of guests during this pandemic.

Stayed in Hotel Riu Plaza for 4 nights in July 20’ - the hotel was only recently opened following the covid pandemic. We had an absolutely fabulous stay - from the hotel staff, to the bedroom, the 360 degree views and the breakfast it was faultless, a really lovely city centre hotel with a great soul.. I was also amazed by the level of training, preparation and preventative measures implemented by the hotel to stop the spread of the virus - really is an eye opener to other countries ! One recommendation for the hotel is to consider putting another pool on the 21st floor to avoid overcrowding. A great hotel in a great city - We will be back
