My husband and I were excited to stay at Maxime hotel in Lisbon after seeing the pictures online. When we arrived we knew our room wouldn't be ready as we arrived 3 hours earlier then check-in, but they were happy to host our bags as we walked around the city. Our initial reaction was amazement, as the lobby was gorgeous! We loved the staff's uniforms and the modern black decor and Burlesque feel of the hotel. When we received our room, we noticed the safe wasn't working, after letting the front desk know, they happily accommodated us in a larger room. The room was exactly as pictured, they even had larger sized toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, body wash) which was a plus! I do wish the front desk told us about their burlesque show upon check in, it seemed really cool. The lobby bar got pretty full in the evening, they had a comedy show the night we were there. There was also a outdoor patio on the second floor which was a nice retreat with blankets available for those chilly nights. I would definitely return to this hotel, it was perfectly situated for our needs, and everything was walking distance. The front desk was also a fantastic help with restaurant recommendations.

Fun place!
This hotel was okay. The decor was very tongue in cheek and they owned it. The breakfast in the morning was really expansive, and they noticed it was my wife’s birthday upon our arrival and we had a bottle of champagne and a piece of cake waiting in our room when we came back from dinner. Very nice touch. The TV had a YouTube app so we could still watch some stuff we were familiar with. My only two criticisms would be: 1. The mattress protector was very loud and would crinkle anytime we moved. 2. The bar was beautiful, but only served hard alcohol after 5pm, and would stop serving food past 11:30/12. This city is known for late meals so this kind of surprised me. There are plenty of bars in the area so we definitely didn’t hurt for booze, but in a location where there are half naked women posted everywhere and the word “bondage” sprawled across a hotel room door I guess I expected a little more excess.

Very good 8.0
The hotel is superbly styled: dark and sumptuous, with lots of little touches that bring the place together - lots of gold, little martini bottles and burlesque wallpaper. The room itself was lovely, but it was small. It lacked surface space and places to store items. The wardrobe was two small albeit stylish gold bars hanging from the ceiling with about 5 hangers on each. The bathroom had a lovely gold vanity but it didn’t really store anything and the shower was so small I kept banging my elbows on the glass. I loved the styling but I wish it’d been a bit bigger. The breakfast every morning was great - a wide selection and actually reasonable times (8-11am) as no one wants to be getting up super early on their holidays. It was in a fantastic location and had enough on the doorstep to entertain us even if we didn’t feel like going out far. I would definitely stay again!

Exceptional 10.0
The staff was amazing and helpful with directions and recommendations for the area. The location is excellent. Rooms are on the smaller side but nicely appointed. I would stay here again! The only slightly weird thing was the elevators are tiny and have a door that you have to open to get to them- it was hard to handle the door with my bags and also hard to tell when they were actually there. That was the only negative at all though for my stay and wouldn’t deter me from being there again!

Poor 2.0
EXTREMELY loud - I would never stay here again
I was on the first floor and I could hear the ENTIRE PERFORMANCE as it happened below on the main level. I could hear the audience laughing and the performance as though I was sitting in the audience. It continued until at least 11:30 pm. I called down to reception and they said there was nothing they could do. Then, I contacted and they contacted the hotel and then the hotel said there was a room on the second floor I could switch to. However, I was already in my pyjamas in bed and it would have been a massive inconvenience to gather all my things, change rooms, all for one night. This hotel should NOT have rooms available on the first floor when there are performances happening. They also would not offer a refund and were very unapologetic. I would never stay here again.
