Best Cheap Jordan, Hong Kong Hotels

Jordan is one of Hong Kong's hidden gems of authenticity, a vibrant working-class residential area squeezed between Kowloon Park to the south and the Temple Street market to the north. The main road in Jordan divides the sea of high rises that are home to many of Hong Kong's ethnic communities. So expect food that's diverse, markets that are bustling, and a vacation that's an adventure. This neighborhood’s wide range of low cost accommodation makes it a great place to explore Hong Kong on a budget.

Hotels in Jordan

Most of the accommodation in Jordan lies along Nathan Road, extending into the narrow streets running either side. Many of these are low-cost hostels and guest houses, but there are a fair few quality hotels in Jordan too. On the eastern side of Jordan are large, modern hotels like the Madera Hong Kong. This boutique 4-star hotel boasts a games room, art gallery, and a roof-top bar with amazing views onto Victoria Harbor. CHI Residences 314 is a stylish Jordan apart-hotel that's praised for its spacious rooms and great location, while the Novotel Hong Kong Nathan Road Kowloon impresses with its affordable rooms rates.

Things to see in Jordan

Jordan's most well-known attraction is probably the Jade Market, marked by a 3-ton slab of this green ornamental stone. The Chinese consider it to be good luck, and a long line of stalls and small shops sell an incredible range of jade rings, pendants, bangles, and earrings here. Close by, stretching into the district from the south of Tin Hau Temple, is the Temple Street Market. This is one of Hong Kong's famous “night markets,” which only really gets going once the sun goes down. Temple Street Market is very much of the “flea” variety, selling all kinds of inexpensive items, with a special focus on goods for men—hence its other common name of “Men's Street.” It's not just about shopping for bargains or local craft pieces in Jordan, though. Elements is a large shopping mall to the west which boasts big brands, fashion outlets, and the largest cinema complex in Hong Kong.

Good for budget travelers

Jordan was once known as quite an adventurous Hong Kong district to stay in, but with its new upmarket developments, it has become more socially diverse. It's still a predominantly working-class neighborhood though, and if you're wanting a cost-conscious vacation in “Asia's World City,” then Jordan fits the bill. Inexpensive meals can be had at Chinese seafood eateries, dim sum stalls, and diverse ethnic restaurants provided for its African, Indian, and Pakistani communities. The street markets here are aimed at locals too, with many a bargain to be had, while you're sure to find a discount Jordan hotel to suit your budget.

How to get to Jordan

Hong Kong International Airport is about 20 miles west of Kowloon, the mainland peninsula where Jordan lies. The cheapest option for getting to Jordan from the airport is to catch the A22 bus. It takes around 45 minutes to travel to Jordan this way, but does drop you off at the Jordan metro stop. Much more expensive is the Airport Express train service, arriving in Kowloon Station after only 20 minutes. From here you should catch either the K1 bus service, stopping at Austin Road, or the K4, getting off at B P International. Both services are free for Airport Express customers.
