Hotels in Virginia
Coastal cities like Virginia Beach have hotels that range from humble B&Bs to 4-star establishments, and nearly all of them put you just a short walk from the amazing beaches. Some are even positioned on the shore, such as the Hilton Virginia Beach Oceanfront, one of the highest rated 4-star hotels in Virginia. Cities close to Washington D.C. tend to have more upscale accommodation, where amenities like indoor pools and fitness centers are standard. If you’re looking for luxury, you’ll find most 5-star hotels are in Washington D.C. For a 5-star hotel in Virginia, The Ritz-Carlton in Arlington is an outstanding choice.
Things to see in Virginia
One of the most distinguished historical sites is the Arlington National Cemetery, which includes the Tomb of the Unknowns and the grave of John F. Kennedy. Thousands of American soldiers have been laid to rest here, dating from the Revolution to the present day. Although a sombre place to visit, it’s an important part of American history. Historic Jamestown, located on the site of the first permanent English settlement in North America, is another must-see attraction. After taking a tour of the archaeological site and visiting the museum, you’re left with a deeper understanding of the hardships early settlers had to endure in order to pave the way for future generations. Virginia has beautiful countryside, and there’s no better way to see it than by taking a car along the scenic Skyline Drive. The 105-mile long route was built in the 1930s, and takes you through the picturesque Shenandoah National Park.

Arlington and neighbouring Alexandria are excellent choices if you’re looking for Virginia hotels near Washington D.C. As well as providing access to the wealth of attractions in the nation’s capital, you’ll find they have a lot of sights themselves. Williamsburg is particularly good for those on a budget, as it contains many of the discount hotels in Virginia. It also has fantastic historical attractions, such as Colonial Williamsburg.
