"It is a very beautiful setting and the grounds are extremely lovely cultivated Hawaiian gardens. We saw a wild pig the first day we were there with her two little babies. Our hut was decorated in a Chinese theme and a ceramic dragon overlooked our room keeping us safe at night. The room is a little aged and a few things are rusty from the sea air, which I'm assuming is unavoidable due to how close it is to the ocean. It is slightly rustic accommodations, meaning there is window with screens for airflow rather than air conditioning. But there is a full bathroom and a kitchen without any cooking capabilities. But a sink and cupboards with the basics stocked and a fridge and microwave. You can see the ocean from the bed and you can hear the crashing waves day and night. There is bird song all day and bugs join in at night. It was very peaceful and quiet. We were able to go to a black sand beach nearby that was beautiful but had powerful rough waves and we saw about 20 dolphins jumping and playing in the water. There was a specific type of people in the area, a sort of new age hippie thing going on. The black sand beach nearby is a clothing optional beach but we went in the morning and everyone was clothed. But if yoga, vegan, pagan vibes are your vibes, this place is the spot. Very beautiful, peaceful, and quiet. Also quite remote, so be aware. Not much in the form of amenities. There is an outdoor shower that was really cool to use."
"This is a cute hotel. No tv, but our view was amazing, didnt even miss it since the volcano decided to erupt while we were there. So blessed to have witnessed this event. Staff was really nice and accommodating "
"We loved our stay at Kehena house! We were greeted by Stephen when we arrived and given a quick tour. They were hosting a Pride potluck that day and he kindly invited us to come eat and join in as guests of the house. Everyone we met was friendly and we felt safe to be ourselves. In the room, there was a list of unique weekly activities and opportunities near by, which made the experience feel even more welcoming.
The property is *amazing*. Might as well be a mini botanical gardens between the flowers, fawna, and the fruit trees. You can tell its cared for, but not obsessively manicured, a natural look. The inside of the house looks better than the pictures, perfectly clean. Thoughtful touches as well. I selected the room that is more exposed to the outside night noises, and ear plugs were provided (i didnt need them, I enjoyed the experience). There is a house cat, but she minds to herself and was friendly when approached. I enjoyed the serenity of the outdoor shower one morning. It was so peaceful, great water pressure too. The bathtub available is deep and looked great for soaking tired traveler muscles, but I didnt use it.
We did walk down to the beach. There is no specific easy path down, but there are some trails and it wasnt too difficult. The water was way too rough to get in when we visited, but we got some great pics.
I plan to stay here again next time I visit Hawaii. "
