The property looks modest from the outside, but is actually quite charming. The food in the restaurant is terrific, the beds are comfortable, and the staff . . . they are just the best. We were in Ecuador during a series of protests that shut down most of the country's highways. We couldn't get back to Quito and for a while it looked at though we might not be able to get to the airport. Pablo and the other members of the staff were calm, kind, and super helpful. They made sure we were comfortable, showed us where to hike, fed us well, and helped organize our transport back to the airport. God bless them!
The Hosteria Pampallacta is a 5-minute walk from the larger Termas Papallacta. Those pools are delightful and worth the time and entry fee. The Termas Papallacta Hotel is beautiful, but we found the Hosteria more homey and quaint -- especially for half the price of the more expensive resort. And the area around Papallacta is simply stunning.
