The best nudist beaches in Germany range from officially designated coasts on small islands in the Wadden Sea to verdant lakeshores in the suburbs of Berlin. There’s also a popular spot on the scenic Isar River in Munich where you can barbecue while baring it all and bathe in the buff under the lush greenery and summer sun.
Germany is among the best places to experience the ‘free body culture’ – it’s where the Freikörperkultur (FKK) movement first bloomed over a century ago. Today, various FKK-designated spots dot the Baltic coast, lakeshores, and even dams. Narrowing them down, here are the top naturist beaches in Germany.

Buhne 16 and Kampen, Sylt
Germany’s first official naturist beach
The adjoining beaches of Buhne 16 and Kampen line the long and sandy western shore of Sylt Island. Lapped by the calm waves of the Wadden Sea, this is where the country’s first official nudist beach was established back in the 1920s. The Freikörperkultur (FKK) movement eventually spread all over the island several decades later, making Sylt a naturist’s go-to island escape.
Besides Kampen and Buhne 16, you’ll find more spots where you can bare it all and go skinny dipping in the North Sea. Follow the remote western shoreline towards Sylt’s far northern end, and you’ll find them specially marked. Among them are Abyssinia Naturist Beach (Abessinien FKK Strand) and Samoa Naturist Beach (Samoa FKK-Strand).

Dunes and sandbanks by the North Sea
Ording Nord Naturist Beach (Badestelle Ording Nord FKK) forms part of the long northern coast of the popular German seaside spa town known as Sankt Peter-Ording. One of the coastal area’s most unique features is the vast swathes of dunes and sandbanks – impressive features to complement your naturist’s beach escape.
Ording’s wide sandy coast – mostly the width of a football field – slopes gently into the calm waves, offering plenty of space to roam or sunbathe. Beyond the FKK-designated area, the southmost coast is for the general, clothed public. Halfway between, the beach often sees surfer crowds chasing ridable waves just a short paddle out.

The region’s coastline is especially known for its beautiful Blue Flag beaches with wide and sandy shores, shallow blue waters, and some sections with lightly wooded cliffs.
The beach is about 13 km north of the city hub. The nudist section is about 1.5 km west of the port at the Warnow River’s mouth. A series of numbered trails allow you to access the coast across dunes, with the FKK area accessible at number 20. Further west, the scene changes to low cliffs with the beach’s broadest part attended by the clothed crowd.

The whole lido with its natural sandy shore is approximately 250 metres long. Its FKK-dedicated western end is about 150 metres long and there are lightly wooded sunbathing areas in between the designated areas. The water remains shallow for about 60 metres into the lake – it offers great swimming for young and old.

Escape to a lush riverside beach

In summer, though, locals often bring their picnic baskets or barbecues down to the riverside. Some stay on into the night with small fires lit up. The stream is quite cold during most times of the year, but it’s a popular spot for a refreshing skinny dip during the warm and sunny season.

The beach of Duhnen hardly ever gets crowded. The small FKK-designated area is surrounded by a brushwood fence, offering an added degree of privacy. Even so, you can usually walk out of this ‘compound’ to freely skinny dip in the calm and shallow waters.
