We loved our stay at Mayaland - huge room with balcony overlooking the Chitchen Itza observatory. Yes some of the resort needs updating (work is underway but wasn’t an issue) but the place oozes charm and character and the history of building is felt everywhere. Shame that the entrance to Chitchen next to the hotel is closed at present but the free shuttle was great.

Still don’t have the full amenities since they last opened but we still had an amazing time. The property has so much potential to be very luxurious. The staff was great (they provided us a tour to Chichen itzá and transportation) and we really enjoyed the drinks at the bar and the food at the restaurant!!!

8/10 Very good

The staff is courteous and the grounds are intriguing. You can tell it was once an amazing place. But it’s fallen into quite a bit of disrepair. Also the private entrance to the ruins no longer exists. We stayed in the “modern” building. Our room had the tv removed, but the wall brackets for it were still on the wall. The room came with a nice soaking tub for two, which was nice. If they’d removed the brackets and patched the walls it would have been fine. The hotel common areas are better cared for. The restaurant is very nice. So it’s an odd mix of beauty, bits of luxury, and neglect, but nothing unsafe or dirty. I’d stay again.

Really beautiful place. You feel like you descended in a different world, in the middle of the forest ( Yucatán moist forest). It is more beautiful than I imagined when I booked it. The staff in the reception and restaurant, absolutely sweet.

The hotel and restaurant service was great and we loved the view of the Caracol. Juan, William and other staff were superb as were the rest of staff. Enjoyed the fact that Pavarotti and other Celebrities like J-Lo stayed at this hotel. Some upgrades to shower, hot water, would be nice.

4/10 Fair

Location to Chichen Itza is great and we appreciated the tour guide and early ticket purchases arranged by the hotel to beat the queues. The staff were very helpful and friendly overall and there seems to be a lot of work going on across the resort. That said, I’m not sure why ratings for the hotel and rooms is so high amongst other guests. Despite having a superior room it was tired. The shower didn’t drain at all well so flooded the bathroom floor, there was no sound proofing and we could hear everything going on along the balcony outside and down in the gardens below. On the second morning before check out we had to endure 2.5 hours (8-10.30am) of someone chainsawing logs in the garden. The site seemed to have been hit by a storm or been allowed to fall into a state of disrepair as many of the chalets had thatched roofs that had fallen in. Maybe as we visited out of season it will all be fixed in time. Restaurant was ok with a range of options but after eating there a couple of times, options felt limited. Breakfast was expensive and not worth it as an add on.

10/10 Exceptional

One of the nicest hotels I've ever stayed at! Very helpful front desk staff, loaded with information about the hotel's history. Incredibly extensive grounds, two lovely pools, great dining room. Plus, they arranged a private tour of Chichen Itza for me, which included transportation to the front gate, no-line tickets, and knowledgeable and friendly guide of the grounds. My room was spacious, with a nice balcony, and everything was delightful!

6/10 Good

Beautiful, historic property but inconsistent services and amenities. Grounds - lovely, intricately carved wood accents, lush gardens, Spanish-colonial architecture. Rooms - Spacious, comfortable beds, good AC. Large spa tub, but no bubble bath. No hair dryer or working TV in the rooms. Gorgeous leather-woven chairs but it's not easy to sit down and enjoy a meal bc chairs and table on the balcony are different heights. Restaurant - There's only 1 restaurant on the property, not 3. Food quality and service is variable. Too expensive for what you get, and there's a bit of nickeI-and diming that we haven't encountered at other resorts. Numerous food items on the menu were unavailable, which limited the selections. Amenities - Nice pool area, beautiful gardens. But several things noted on the hotel map are non-existent (i.e. a stable and horse area). There's a planetarium on site, which is pretty cool, but the projector needs a new bulb as images were pretty dim. Proximity - within sight of Chichen Itza, but not within walking distance with surrounding jungle and roads. It's about 10 minutes away by car, depending on traffic. Car service to airport - Terrible. Driver decided to take us on an unrequested scenic drive thru Valladolid rather than the direct route to the Cancun airport. Worse, he got lost in Valladolid, and my husband had to redirect him to the highway. Had we not caught on, we would have missed our flight. Not worth the hefty price we paid for this.
