Far East Plaza on Orchard Road is one of Singapore’s older shopping complexes. The complex attracts a young and cool crowd looking for one-off bargain buys from unknown designers. Around 800 retail outlets occupy the 6-level mall, catering to a mix of young students and tourists looking for unique items.

Fashion shops are on the casual and often outrageous side – tourists tend to visit more for the discounts available on items such as cameras and electronics. Fashion accessories are also a great buy here, especially custom-made bags, belts, and jewellery.

The shopping centre has many beauty shops offering manicures, facials and massages in addition to a growing number of tattoo parlours. Shopping here is best enjoyed during weekdays – it can get very crowded with Singaporean teenagers on weekends.

Shopping

Far East Plaza is great for discount shopping. Even though you won’t see any well-known fashion brands, it’s certainly worth a look as the creative clothes designs and unique shoes here are nothing short of fun and inspiring.

There are some souvenir and art shops at the mall, as well as a range of branded electronic goods on sale. Remember that bargaining is expected at Far East Plaza. Level 1 is a great place to start with loads of original accessories and cool clothes on display.

Food

Dining here is quite informal – there are loads of choice with plenty of eateries located on the top floor and more hidden away throughout the mall. Food is mostly Asian with a heavy focus on Chinese. Most of the restaurants are inexpensive and open for brunch, lunch or dinner. There are also a few coffee shops and the usual fast-food outlets, although there is no food court.

Entertainment

The main entertainment at Far East Plaza is people watching. Grab a drink at any of the coffee shops and watch the often-bizarre world go by. At the weekends the mall is packed with wannabee trendsetters showcasing their latest look. There are also plenty of tattoo parlours and body piercing shops at the shopping centre catering to the youthful crowd. If it all becomes too much, you can consider one of the beauty shops for a foot massage.

You can find Far East Plaza at the Scotts Road and Orchard Road intersection. There are plenty of buses that stop right outside and the Orchard Road MRT is just a short stroll away. Underground car parking is also available. The mall opens daily yet visiting during the weekday usually has less of the crowd.
