The best places to go shopping in Abu Dhabi are almost exclusively malls for the simple fact that the United Arab Emirates is an extremely hot country. People tend not to spend too much time away from the air conditioning if they can help it. If you have a craving to go shopping, you’ll naturally want to do it in climate-controlled comfort.
That said, Abu Dhabi’s range of malls and shopping experiences is remarkably varied. If you pick the right places, such as those we have curated for you on this list, you can find anything from unique local souvenirs to some of the most exclusive fashion labels in the world.

Avenue at Etihad Towers
Exclusive boutique shopping mall
- Food
- Luxury
- Shoppers
Avenue at Etihad Towers is one of the smallest malls in Abu Dhabi in terms of the number of stores. However, while it only covers 2 floors of the landmark structure, the stores available are all very exclusive. Think Stefano Ricci, Tom Ford and the handmade suits of Kiton. In many cases, Avenue has Abu Dhabi’s only outlet for such brands.
As you might expect of such a venue, dining is not the focus here, though you will find some very good coffee. For more robust refreshment we recommend you head up to the Observation Deck at 300, where you’ll find not only a full sit-down cafe but also the highest vantage point in Abu Dhabi.
Location: 184 King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud St, Al Bateen, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates
Open: Saturday–Thursday from 10 am to 10 pm, Friday from 3 pm to 11 pm

Souq Al Mina
Market shopping near Dhow Harbour
- Budget
- History
- Shoppers
Souq Al Mina is exactly what its name suggests, a local market at the port. Specifically, it’s by the harbour where traditional dhow boats arrive laden with spices, raw ingredients and handmade wares. The market is loud and chaotic, but worth the visit if you’re looking for a unique experience and low-cost goods.
There are actually several markets at Souq Al Mina, including a flower bazaar, fish market, dates market and homewares in the Iranian Market. Just around the corner is the Carpet Souq, where you can find fine rugs at far better prices than in the big Abu Dhabi malls. Note that the stallholders might not be as fluent in English as your average mall shop assistant.
Location: Zayed Port, Al Mina, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates
Open: Daily from 9 am to 11 pm
