Destination fee was an unpleasant surprise
Upon check-in, I was notified that I had to pay a $35 per day “destination fee” for parking and a “free” drink. I didn’t have a car or want the drink, but they said I had to pay. I showed them that my confirmation from Hotels.com didn’t mention a fee and in fact said, “Your booking is guaranteed, and all paid for,” but they wouldn’t budge. I was curious what would happen if I didn’t pay the fee. Would I lose the non-refundable room rate paid to Hotels.com? But the staff person was fed up with me and refused to talk to me further, so I never did get an answer. I paid the fee so I could check in. Later, I spoke to the hotel manager, who quickly recognized that I had not been notified of the fee, and she cheerfully refunded the daily fee. So ultimately, the hotel treated me right. My biggest disappointment is with Hotels.com. After checking in but before talking to the hotel manager, I called Hotels.com in the expectation that they would sort this out for me. Instead, they said I had to pay the fee. The Hotels.com representative said that it is their policy to not mention extra fees in the confirmation emails. Well, OK, but they could at least refrain from telling me that the room is “all paid for” then. The Hotels.com representative added that such fees are buried in a section that is accurately called “fine print.” After she coached me on how to find it, I could see that the fee was there. But Hotels.com shouldn’t be hiding information about mandatory fees.

Okay stay at a hotel right on Duval street
After hurricane Irma they refused to allow us to cancel our trip so after many requests, we decided to just go. I have to say hotel was nice, but I've stayed at other hotels where they are more accommodating. You'd think after hurricane Irma as Key West is wanting tourists to come back, they'd offer incentives like free parking or breakfast or anything that showed appreciation to their customers, but they didn't. Other hotels in the area were doing this. Any time you went to a resideunt or a store in Key West, you could feel their appreciation just even in their tone, but not the same from this hotel. The first night after coming back from dinner there were ants all over our room. So I called the front desk and they initially asked how many ants and that engineering had to come look at our room before moving us. After I told her we killed as many as we could, she said she'd move us. She did offer a breakfast voucher for the next morning, but you would think a hotel that costs this much would have no such issue. What a pain repacking 2 adults and 2 kids..You'd think they'd upgrade us for the inconvenience. Staff hardly said hello unless you greeted them first. The pool was nice, same with the location of the hotel if you want to be on Duval St. But the atmosphere doesn't feel welcoming/inviting, so it wasn't the best hotel we've stayed at. They don't change sheets during you're stay, even though house keeping could come by. They spray the sheets.

    Poor 2.0
    HORRIBLE FRONT DESK MANAGER
We were married in KW and stayed at La Concha for our honeymoon. Bliss...fast forward 23 years and we were heading back for a 2nd honeymoon. Just over 2 hours before our plane was supposed to leave MSP airport, we rec'd a call that my husbands Aunt was taken to Mayo Hosp in Rochester. We immediately turned around. Our stay was supposed to be Feb 3-6, 2017. I called La Concha the afternoon of Feb 4. Front desk assured me I would receive refund for Feb. 5. Have been charged for the entire stay. Have called La Concha and left at least a dozen messages for the Front Desk Manager, Steve (LOSER). Still have not heard back. Expedia customer service has been amazing. They miraculously SPOKE with the elusive Steve, the front desk manager. He said unless we provide proof of a family emergency (ie: get a signed note from her doctor) there will be no refund. Maybe privacy laws in Florida are lax...or he is really uneducated. Steve, ever heard of HIPAA laws? I will make a point of letting everyone I know (and thanks to social media; the ones I do not) to AVOID LA CONCHA CROWNE PLAZA KEY WEST. Nearly $1300 they made off someone's family emergency. STAY AWAY and SAVE YOUR MONEY! Steve, rot in hell...PS: no need to call me back.

    Very good 8.0
We checked in, went to the room and what room I booked didn’t look at all like what Expedia shows I booked. The desk attendant mentioned that he upgraded us too😳 which was totally bogus...It was a King size bed in a closet and I’m not exaggerating! The fortunate part for us, the carpets were just getting cleaned and this room had extremely wet carpet. I left foot prints on the bathroom floor, it was so wet that your socks would of been saturated! We went back to the front desk told them no way we could stay in that room and then moved us up to the 5th floor. Expecting another closet size room and to our surprise it was a suite. Two very large armchairs, two nightstands, huge dresser and fridge space. The bathroom room was double the size of the previous room. This was is the room pictured on Expedia. I really feel that the desk attendant was pulling a fast one. I was sick about that and feeling somewhat mad too. That was really a stupid move on his part. The hotel doesn’t have heat and our week there didn’t get any warmer that 63. So the first night in our room was extremely cold. They didn’t tell us to turn off the thermostat to get relief from cool air. After asking about why we couldn’t get heat the gal at the front desk told us no heat LOL ... not cool again !! The one thing I’ve learned in all our travels... bad accommodations will absolutely ruin the whole vacation! This should be the number one concern to all hotel and resort representatives!

    Exceptional 10.0
    Perfect location!!
I read a million reviews and finally chose La Concha!! Perfect location if you are not renting a car...everything is in walking distance. Yes you can walk it all or take a trolley or rent a bike. The heat and sun are very strong so trolley may be your choice but we walked everything!! Staff was great, Jerica from concierge was excellent for setting up tours and for all local information and recommendations. Happy Hour at your hotel is 430pm to 630pm take advantage not at the pool bar unfortunately. Beers are $2.15 top shelf what they call their well is $4.30 and small plates are delicious for $8 and change with delicious options. As for the pool it is small but clean, I do recommend they lower the water temp. Because it is like a hot tub pool more on the warm side and when the real feel is 107 you can really appreciate cool water. Beidy was my bartender and was a sweetheart and very efficient, great service with a smile. Take advantage of the spa on 7th floor beautiful views with lil cardio gym. I didnt use spa services but check out the view!! As for the rooms nice clean comfortable, sheets are sealed with a lock so no worry of bed bugs. The bathroom should have some behind the door hooks or on the wall to hang clothes and towels???!! In the evening room lighting is not the best just 4 lamps not super bright. One elevator was out so took lil longer, to get out and I sign posted saying priority to fix even though no one was fixing during my 7 day stay. Would stay again:)
