When we first pulled up to Khan Duidar Inn I was a little worried - the neighborhood is under repair and the door was not the nicest. However, once we got upstairs to the inn, all my worries disappeared. The Inn is small but well-kept, the rooms are perfectly nice, the view is amazing, and the staff were phenomenal.
I should add that we arrived at 4am, so no neighborhood looks amazing at that time! In the light of day, we were excited to be where we were - it's in just a normal neighborhood near schools and shops and everyday life. It was neat to see the Egyptians just doing their thing.
I cannot say enough about the staff. They were so kind, so hospitable, and so SO helpful. At one point we had an issue with an international wire to pay for another part of our trip. Sayid, the manager, offered to get on the phone with the tour operator for us to help us sort it out. He let us borrow his personal phone charger as we had not had a chance to buy an Egyptian one. He and the staff helped us in every aspect of our trip.
Oh, and the resident cat is very sweet. My son named him Catenkamhen. But, we think the cat may be a girl, so we changed it's name to Cleocatra.
This place is a hidden jewel. It's not touristy, and it is worth the ride. Seriously, stay here. It's so good.
