Not the best
The price was quite good for the area, but I now kind of know why. At check in the lady at the front desk was very nice. The elevator was a little sketchy, making weird noises each time I rode, but I never got stuck or anything so no complaints. The room itself was pretty nice, although quite small and the phone did not work. Comfortable beds, however, the air conditioning didn’t always work. The shower only had about 1/3 of a barrier between it and the rest of the bathroom, so water would inevitably get everywhere no matter what. The real issue came in the morning when I heard banging coming from the room above me around 8 in the morning. I wasn’t sure if it was another guest or construction, but when I heard electric drills I knew it was the latter. I had been up quite late the night before, so I was trying to sleep and could not with this noise that went on for hours. I called down to the front desk to mention the noise and ask if I could get a late check out due to being woken up early by the noise and needing more sleep. He said he could do an extra hour but no more. The morning experience really ruined the whole thing for me both with the construction and lack of adequate customer service in response. I would not stay here again.

Very good
This is a nice hotel in the central part of the city. The rooms were immaculate. The bedware and the towels were very clean. The rooms were of adequate size and so was the bathroom which even included a bidet. The personnel was extremely helpful, Alberto and Daniel were excellent at trying to meet our needs, and they both went our of their way to make us feel comfortable, and resolve our issues. The hot buffet breakfast was hearty and plentiful. The day we left they even packed a breakfast for all in our group, due to the fact that our flight was leaving early. We left at 6:00am, and breakfast did not start until 7:00 am. However, our only problem was that our room in particular did not have enough storage area nor proper lighting. The rooms for our friends did not have any of these issues. We had a very pleasant stay at this hotel. In the future, we would not hesitate to stay at Hotel Ciutat Vella just, not in the same room.

Disappointment
I asked a room in upper floors. I even got a message that they try to do their best. The result was: the room in the first floor. I said that I did not wish for that. The answer was that I do get a room which is for two persons. The price for one person seems to be the same as for two persons and so one person should not be treated worse in any case. When then entering the room there was a bad smell. It helped when I opened the window. Then I noticed that there really is no view. There is only an opening facing the window on the other side. During my holiday I tested 3 hotels. This was the most expensive but the worst.

Very good
I like the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. The location was perfect. It is simple and basic, with small rooms, no microwave, iron, or washing facilities. The shower water flows out onto the floor and I believe there is mold under the flooring. I over paid - more then twice then the price advertised the day before I arrived. I liked the neighborhood and that ther was a vegetarian restaurant with in a few minutes walkin distance. I also enjoyed being close enough to walk to the cathedral and a number of museums. I felt safe walking alone at night. There is a reasonably priced market a minute away. My father enjoyed the breakfast, however the most nutritious cereal had sugar in it and I do no eat eggs. The bread was not wholegrain, so being health conscious and vegetarian, there were really no protein options. But there was herb tea,

Excellent location near BCN City Center.
The hotel did not live up to the very high ratings it had received on line but was well located near the Pl. Catalunya. It was spacious for a “single” room and had a modern, clean bathroom with lots of water pressure, but the walls of the room itself either needed a real good scrubbing or a new paint job. The room was quiet but quite dark and the single bed was hard. The 9Eu. breakfast was not very good. The English speaking staff were friendly. WiFi was very good. I appreciated having a room safe. Complimentary coffee was served in the lobby but only for four hours a day.
