Top neighbourhoods in Atlanta

Midtown

Midtown Atlanta delivers culture and corporate cool in one energetic package. Stroll from the High Museum's gleaming galleries to the ornate Fox Theatre, with its jaw-dropping Moorish revival splendour. Piedmont Park offers a green escape when you need a breather from the towering glass giants of the business district. Art lovers can hop between museums and theatres while architecture buffs gawk at the skyline's impressive mix. Upscale restaurants serve everything from farm-to-table Southern plates to international cuisine throughout the area. Hotels range from sleek business properties to boutique gems, most with rooftop bars for skyline views. Getting around couldn't be easier with three MARTA stations connecting you to the rest of Atlanta.

Downtown Atlanta

City centre Atlanta buzzes with blockbuster attractions that will keep your itinerary packed and your camera busy. The Georgia Aquarium's massive whale shark exhibits and the interactive World of Coca-Cola museum draw crowds year-round. Sports fans flock to Mercedes-Benz Stadium and State Farm Arena, while Centennial Olympic Park offers a peaceful break with its dancing fountains. MARTA's convenient train stations connect you to Atlanta's best spots without hire car headaches. Business hotels dominate the accommodation scene, with prices reflecting their prime location. Weekday lunch spots cater to the business crowd, though dining options thin out on weekends when the suits head home.

Buckhead

Buckhead blends luxury shopping with cultural charm in Atlanta's polished uptown district. Fashionistas flock to high-end Phipps Plaza and Lenox Square malls, while history buffs explore the sprawling Atlanta History Centre. The Buckhead Theatre hosts live performances that bring the neighborhood's entertainment scene to life. Bobby Jones Golf Course offers a scenic escape between shopping sprees. Upscale restaurants and cocktail lounges dot the tree-lined boulevards, creating a sophisticated nightlife scene. Three MARTA stations make navigating the area convenient, connecting visitors to city centre attractions in minutes. Five-star hotels and boutique properties provide plush accommodation for travellers who appreciate the finer things.

Old Fourth Ward

Old Fourth Ward offers a perfect blend of Atlanta's past and present. Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthplace and the King Centre serve up meaningful civil rights history alongside preserved architecture. Ponce City Market buzzes in a converted Sears building, while the BeltLine trail connects muraled walls and pocket parks. Central Park provides a green escape from the neighborhood's artistic energy. Edgewood Avenue dishes out hip restaurants and craft breweries that showcase Atlanta's contemporary food scene. Getting around is easy with the nearby King Memorial station providing rail service city centre. Whether you're walking the BeltLine or exploring historic sites, Old Fourth Ward balances tourist destinations with authentic local life.

Virginia Highland

Virginia Highland is where Atlanta locals actually hang out, a magical area of leafy streets lined with charming Craftsman bungalows and Tudor homes. Wander Highland Avenue to discover indie boutiques, pavement cafes, and cosy restaurants that feel like they were made just for you. Nearby Piedmont Park offers a perfect green escape, while the BeltLine trail connects you to even more Atlanta adventures. Most dining spots serve farm-to-table goodness with price tags that won't make you cry. Stay in a boutique B&B or holiday rental to feel like a temporary local. Getting around is easiest on foot or by car, with ample street parking and ride-sharing options readily available throughout this walkable gem.

"We had a meal in the restaurant, and it was ok. I had a salad with chicken as an extra. The chicken was very dry and old. Not freshly cooked at all. My husband had the salmon, which was good. They had no non-alcohol beer. We didn’t have breakfast there or used the pool or the gym. The rating is a 4.5*, but I would only rate it a 3*"

Moxy Atlanta Downtown

Moxy Atlanta Downtown

10/10 Excellent
"I recently stayed at the Moxy in Atlanta while attending a trade show, and honestly, it was one of the coolest hotel experiences I’ve ever had. The funny part is that it was actually the most affordable hotel available when I was booking my trip. When my Uber dropped me off from the airport, there had to be close to 100 people standing outside waiting in line for drinks. My first thought was: “Oh boy… what have I gotten myself into?” I walked into the hotel looking for the front desk. I kept walking until I found this huge bar in the middle of the space, with music playing and people everywhere. So I asked the bartender, “Where do I check in?” He looked at me and said, “Right here.” I said, “Here? At the bar?” He said, “Yeah. This is Marriott’s version of a cruise ship on land.” Then came the next question: “What can I get you to drink?” The other bartender noticed my whiskey shirt and said, “He’s got a whiskey shirt on… maybe he prefers whiskey.” I said, “Sure, I’ll have a whiskey.” And just like that, I was checked into my hotel. Honestly, it was one of the coolest check-ins I’ve ever experienced. And the experience continued from there. The Moxy may have a completely different vibe than your traditional hotel, but that’s exactly what makes it great. Every Moxy has its own personality and theme, and the Atlanta location absolutely delivers."
