Beautiful views
Steve, 4-night trip

2/10 Poor

The view was beautiful but if the host could have ruined that she would have done that too. She was rude, insulting and dismissive. She started by telling us that she didn't know of our reservations. She then added charges for the dogs-in addition to charging us $100 for the dogs, she placed a $500 charge on our credit card in case we left them in the room without us. The charge is still on our credit card as it has not dropped off yet. As we were leaving we asked her to return the deposit , she said "I didn't charge you, get lost!" and then hung up the phone. We talked to the people beside us (who did not book through Expedia) and their check-in experience was vastly different. A $500 hold was not required of them. After we submitted our initial review to expedia, she refused to give us clean towels because she said we gave her a bad review and slammed the door in my husband's face. We had one towel each for the entirety of our stay. My husband tried to connect with her and told her he was from Ireland. She replied, that the Irish are nice people but he was the exception. She also told him that he was a horrible person when he asked for the towels and accused him of "nickel and diming her" as we were trying to get the price for the dogs that was printed on the website. The amenities were very basic and little scary because the appliances were bought in the 70's and the carpet was threadbare and definitely not up to par for the price. I have been with Expedia for years

Amazing hotel with incredible views!
Absolutely amazing place. Our dog was super happy the entire time as well. The view was amazing!!! The host Alvina is such a sweet and funny person. This place looks and feels like a cozy, rustic German/ Austrian cottage. Exactly what we were looking for. And the location was perfect!

Rustic lake relaxing times
This is a lovely place if you’re looking for a rustic lake side apartment away from hustle and bustle. We shared some drinks and fun times with the owner Alvina... if we come back we’d stay again. If you want modern flash then it’s not the place but if you want chilled atmosphere, bbq at night and just somewhere to relax then this is a great option.

The view was unbeatable of the lake and mountains. The room was clean and the kitchen came with all the supplies to eat in at least a little bit. The decor is older and shows some wear, there is also no air conditioning or overhead fans. Overall for the price and view it is wonderful and we will be back.

Beautiful location, right on the lake. Decor is very Retro but has a great history behind when it was built. Friendly innkeeper, warm and welcoming. Wish we could stay and stare at the relaxing water longer!

4/10 Fair

Location is excellent, but otherwise a mixed bag
The location is superior - right on the lake, a short walk to a nice public beach, also to Safeway and the Kings Beach commercial strip. It's pet-friendly, too. It's also clean, but there's a very cheap, shabby vibe about it. First, the place hasn't been remodeled in decades, so surfaces are worn, and drawers and doors don't close right. Second, furnishings were mostly low-end to begin with, so they underscore the place's worn and semi-functional traits: a curtain rod came apart when I was trying to open the curtains. The bedding was bottom-of-the-line, with micro-fiber sheets, those weird sheet-foam blankets, and pillow shams that were so ancient-looking that I didn't want to put my head on them. Third, the walls were thin, so I could hear my neighbors below and next door, making me paranoid about disturbing them. Other negatives: Contrary to the promotional blurb, you can't call what they have a private beach. It's boulders and a tiny little pier. Housekeeping is kind of intrusive. The owners seem to do it themselves, and they don't give you a "Do Not Disturb" sign. I get the impression they really want to come in, even though I neither need nor want clean towels every day anyway.

A room with such a view!
Holiday House is not a new hotel, so if you are looking for five-star luxury, this isn't the place for you. However, if you want the most stunning view of Lake Tahoe, a warm and friendly greeting from the owner and her sweet dog, Heidi, peace and tranquility, then this is the place for you.

Cozy, Can't beat the view, but dated...
I wish there was a way to communicate that our pets were coming on our visit through Expedia, but plan on calling the Holiday House directly to advise that your pet(s) are coming, if you choose to book through Expedia. Our host was very pleasant and welcoming, and it was almost as if she had invited us into her home. Plenty of local knowledge and ideas for "out of towners". The room that we stayed in had incredible views and was almost as if it was suspended over the Lake. The room was sufficient for what we needed, but don't expect much in the way of extravagancies. The room had a definite ‘70’s feel as if that had been the last time any updates had been made. The shower, however, was very good and didn’t lack for water pressure! Although dated The Holiday House was clean and homey.

A wonderful stay at the Holiday House
My husband and I had a lovely stay at the Holiday House. Our rooms included a bedroom, a nicely stocked kichenette, bathroom with shower and family room. The rooms were spotless and nicely furnished. The bed was very comfortable. We had a great view of the lake from the family / kichenette area. There was easy access to the water. Innkeeper Alvina and her German Shepherd Heidi made us feel welcome and very comfortable during our stay. We will definitely go back!

Affordable rooms close to the water, creaky walls
The room was large enough to fit everyone in our party. Our room was on the 1st floor. When guests on the 2nd floor walked around, our walls creaked and could also the foot steps of the upstairs guests. The kitchenette was stocked with enough plates and silverware, but the oven door didn't fully close so it took longer for food to cook since heat kept escaping. Probably best suited for college students on a budget just staying for a weekend.
