Taj Cape Town

Taj Cape Town

8/10 Good
"Good stay at Taj Cape Town. Excellent breakfast at Mint. Stayed in a suite. Great view of the mountain. Good bathroom size. Enjoyed the facilities. Only downside was that they didn't make up our room the one day. Called Housekeeping when we got back at 16h30. After a second call, they only sent someone at 18h30. This was a major downer. Expected better service than this."

Le Riad Monceau

Le Riad Monceau

10/10 Excellent
"Le Riad Monceau is located in the middle of a warren of streets in Marrakech and is not directly accessible by car. Their staff moved our luggage for us through the narrow streets, so that was not a problem. If you're looking for a modern style hotel with a pool and elevators to your room, look elsewhere. If you want something that feels like a genuine Moroccan experience located right in the middle of the market area, then it is an excellent choice. Inside it is something of a warren, but that makes it more interesting. Our room was on the top floor - below the rooftop restaurant kitchen - so up a few flights of stairs. Thankfully, the staff moved our bags for us. The rooftop restaurant closes at 11PM and so our room was noisy until 11:30 each night. That wasn't a problem for us, but could be for others. The downstairs restaurant has the same hours and is known for a jazz band, though they were on vacation during our visit in August, High season is in the spring, and we noticed a few businesses that were closed. Breakfast is taken in the downstairs restaurant, in the open courtyard surrounding a small pool that seems to be for decoration rather use. The menu is fixed - croissant, tea or coffee, Madeira cake and eggs. We dined in both the restaurants, and found them good quality and competitive with other hotel restaurants. We booked some tours through the hotel, which were good value. They offer local knowledge and customization: the staff were very helpful."

10/10 Excellent
"Pour notre 1er voyage à Marrakech ce Riad nous a complètement charmé. Il est à la fois très beau, très agréable, bien placé pour les visites de la médina et le personnel y a été agréable. Les petits déjeuners typiques et variés proposés tous les matins sont très bons et le dîner au restaurant était également délicieux ! Nous y reviendrons avec plaisir."

"Very nice Riad it was a beautiful place and very well kept. The host was very friendly helping and accommodating. It was very well situated. Yes it is tucked away through a small alley but its very easy to get to once you have google maps. They have a private parking that is 5 minutes walk away from the Riad. The rooms were nice and the breakfast was lovely on their beautiful terrace. The helpers were also very polite and accommodating. Would highly recommend."

4 tips for savvy savings when booking a hotel in Africa

  1. Book for the cheapest times: The most economical time to visit Africa is during May, June, and September when hotel prices are typically lower. For those on a budget, a stay of at least 3 days is recommended to fully appreciate the region's significant landmarks and cultural attractions. This timeframe allows visitors to explore historical sites, cultural heritage, and stunning natural wonders, ensuring a great value for money experience. With careful planning, prices may drop during these months, making it an ideal opportunity for budget-friendly travel.
  2. Look for last-minute deals on Hotels.com: To uncover great last-minute deals on hotels in Africa, visit the DealsOpens in a new window or Last-Minute DealsOpens in a new window sections on Hotels.com, where you may discover discounted rates close to your travel date. Additionally, enabling email alerts or push notifications could keep you informed about flash sales and special promotions, helping you seize savings opportunities. The Smart ShoppingOpens in a new window tool available via the app allows you to compare hotel prices and amenities, ensuring you're more likely to see the best options. If rooms become available or prices drop, you’ll be among the first to know, ready to book your last-minute getaway.
  3. Be flexible with dates: Prices may fluctuate depending on various factors such as the hotel's location, star rating, and the time of year. Therefore, being flexible with your travel dates could help you find a more economical option for your stay in an African hotel. For those interested in a distinctive experience, boutique hotels often provide a more personalised touch and can sometimes offer better value. When you book through Hotels.com, we will inform you if the price for your chosen dates is above or below the average. Should the price be on the higher side, we can suggest alternative dates that may help you find a more favourable rate.
  4. Consider your location: Staying in the heart of major cities across Africa undoubtedly provides convenience and easy access to a wealth of local attractions. However, this prime location often comes at a premium, making accommodations significantly more expensive. In contrast, smaller towns and rural areas are typically more likely to be affordable, allowing travellers to enjoy their experiences without stretching their budgets. For those seeking better rates, it may be wise to consider hotels situated outside the city centre, although this could necessitate some additional travel to reach key sites. Alternatively, exploring nearby cities that offer a host of attractions can reveal budget-friendly options without compromising on the quality of your stay.

Best time to go to Africa

Africa has a varied climate due to its size, so the best time to visit depends on the region and your preferences for weather and crowds. October to December are the peak travel months in Africa, attracting a higher number of tourists. During this peak period, the weather is sunny to mostly sunny, accompanied by no to light rainfall. On the other hand, May to July tend to be quieter times to visit, marked by no rainfall and sunny conditions.
