Top neighbourhoods in Istanbul

Sultanahmet

Step into history in Sultanahmet, where Istanbul's Byzantine and Ottoman treasures await around every cobblestone corner. The magnificent Blue Mosque stands opposite the awe-inspiring Hagia Sophia, while Topkapi Palace offers glimpses into imperial luxury. Wander through atmospheric streets to discover the mesmerising underground Basilica Cistern with its forest of ancient columns. Traditional Ottoman restaurants serve lamb stew and baklava with Bosphorus views. Boutique hotels in restored mansions provide authentic stays near major attractions. Hop on frequent trams from Sultanahmet Station or explore on foot through the neighborhood's pedestrian-friendly historic centre.

Beyoğlu

Art lovers can lose track of time in the Pera Museum, while shoppers hunt for treasures along bustling İstiklal Avenue. The district pulses with street musicians, vintage trams, and the mingling aromas of Turkish coffee. Traditional meyhanes serve meze platters alongside rooftop restaurants with stunning Bosphorus views. Getting around is a breeze with metro stations at Sishane-Zemin, Tophane, and Karakoy Tünel. Stay in boutique hotels housed in restored Ottoman buildings for a truly authentic Istanbul experience.

The historic market buzzes with spice vendors and fish stalls while Bahariye Street tempts you with bookshops and cafés. At Moda's waterfront, locals sip tea with stunning Bosphorus views, and the ornate Süreyya Opera House anchors the cultural scene. Frequent ferries zip you to European Istanbul in just 15 minutes, and the local metro makes exploration easy. From traditional meyhanes to trendy brunch spots, the food scene here satisfies every craving. Choose between boutique hotels with rooftop terraces or local guesthouses for an authentic area experience.

Art galleries showcase contemporary Turkish design while elegant 19th-century facades add European flair. The area balances upscale shopping with cultural spots like the Cemil Topuzlu Open Air Theatre. Stylish pavement cafés serve perfect Turkish coffee between shopping sprees. Getting around is simple with the nearby Maçka and Taşkışla cable car stations connecting you to greater Istanbul. Luxury boutique hotels and apartments dominate the accommodation scene, offering modern amenities with sophisticated Turkish design touches.

Şişli combines business power with high-end indulgence in Istanbul's buzzing commercial heart. Wander between gleaming office towers and into Cevahir Mall's massive glass dome for a shopping spree. Culture lovers can explore the Atatürk Museum or admire St. Esprit Cathedral's Gothic architecture before hitting designer boutiques in Nişantaşı. The area serves up sophisticated dining with international cuisine and refined Turkish fare. Excellent metro connections via Şişli and Osmanbey stations make getting around a breeze, while upscale hotels cater perfectly to both business and luxury travellers.

"Overall very nice property with a good location. Hotel is well maintained too. Just a couple of things that didn’t go too well: Beds seemed a little old n sagged a bit and housekeeping did not replace coffee sachets and also towels and bathroom floor mat were taken but not replaced. All in all pretty happy with the stay."

Sultanhan Hotel - Special Class

10/10 Excellent
"I had a wonderful stay at Sultanhan Hotel. The hotel was spotlessly clean throughout, and the staff were exceptionally friendly, welcoming, and always ready to help. The breakfast was excellent, with a wide variety of delicious options, and the view from the sixth-floor restaurant made every morning special. The location is ideal—just a short walk from the tram station, making it incredibly easy to explore Istanbul’s main attractions. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend Sultanhan Hotel to anyone visiting the city."
