Not worth the money
You will be lucky if you get reservations at the 4 restaurants on site… the food not so great and you are not given a lot of choices for food or drinks.. my room which was upgraded was missing furniture.. there are times where food is not available for you and forget room service.. horrible.. resort and beach was beautiful and the bar staff and waiters were amazing but front desk need to get it together.. we should have only stayed a couple of days

We had a decent 7 night stay, the price was very affordable. Sometimes food options were limited. We were disappointed to learn that the pools close at 7PM. They would often run out of beach towels for the pool. There is transportation to a nearby golf course, but the course at the resort was closed during our stay. Wildlife was mostly ducks and small cats. Our room was comfortable and the staff was friendly, but many did not speak a lot of English.

The Catalonia is on a beautiful beach and the grounds are very pretty. We upgraded to Privilege and our room was nice and clean and new. They had a Happy Anniversary banner on our door and a card with macaroons inside which was appreciated. I would like to give a higher star rating but quite a few things prevent that. We didn’t get much for our paid upgrade other than a nicer room. We had no beach towels in our room which is advertised. We never got our bath robes either. The beach towels are hard to come by. Getting just basic hand towels or washcloths were difficult and many days we had none. The buffet for breakfast and lunch was not very good at all. Of The four dinner restaurants there were 2 really exceptional ones, the Tapa and Steakhouse. The Japanese was good but not great and the Italian was not good at all. Most of the drinks were just sweet with not much alcohol. The pizza is good but hard to get a slice. They are prepared slow and usually a big line. With a few improvements with housekeeping and food this could be a great hotel. It would be nice to have more evening entertainment. During the day there are lots of things you can do if you choose but almost nonexistent after dinner. We had a fun week but doubt we would return to the Catalonia.

Front desk workers were rude and unapproachable. It was very difficult to get a cart to go anywhere on property, and some cart drivers disregarded us when we needed service with our luggage. Had to call 3 times for washcloths and didn’t arrive until next day. Drinks were watered down and food was average. No great events to look forward to. I’m sure there are much better all inclusive resorts.

The front lobby staff was very scarce and less than helpful during peak check-in times. The lines were so long and the hold process took them forever. They need to hire more front desk attendants. I understand the vendors on the beach have to make a living but they are extremely aggressive and sometime disrespectful. My advice to every one “Do not buy tours from the vendors on the beach”
