Not a 5 stars hotel, but still has some qualities
The Pro’s: This hotel is located in front of Bavaro Beach, an extremely beautiful, long and large beach. One of the most beautiful in the entire Caribbean. The hotel is kept clean and the staff is kind and well meaning, although it lacks the proper training to provide a true 5 stars experience. The Con’s: The food varies between very average and down right horrible. Worst food I have had in a long time in an all-inclusive hotel. It reminded me of my travels to Cuba back in the 1990s… Also, the hotel is quite old (one of the very first to be built in Punta Cana) and somewhat rundown, although honest efforts are being made to keep it in a decent state. Bottom-line while the Barcelo Bavaro Beach is not deprived of some qualities, it is simply not a 5 stars hotel. Not even close. Maybe a 3.5 stars, at best. But one also has to be fair to it, they charge less than other real 5 stars hotel and still have a gorgeous beach to offer to its clientele.

Little things matter
I was a bit disappointed. The shuttle service between areas was unreliable and not consistent. Upon check out they insisted I ordered a pina colada and had it charged to my room. I do not like pina coladas and why would I charge to the room if all inclusive. I tried to explain this, but they wouldn't budge and made me pay. While it was not a big amount, the manner it was handled was totally inappropriate. That was my parting experience and ruined what could have been a good trip.

Great beach. Convenient transportation between Palace resort and Barcelo on Lakes from adults only loaction. Food options were varied at restaurants but nothing outstanding about any of them. Wine was good. Buffet food was tasteless but endless..drinks sugary or watered down. Staff was not the friendliest. Our bathroom sink kept filling up with water. Lights kept shutting off and we had to keep messing with switches at bedside to get bathroom area light to work. Appreciated daily housekeeping and replenishing of water and soda. Night time entertainment was ok at Palace. Seemed like there was never anything to do on the adult side of resort. The quiet was welcomed though. Too bad we couldnt enjoy the beach more. It rained alot on the week we went..but the beach is very nice. Access to boat tours were within walking distance. Spa was over priced but ok. Would not revisit this resort but its not the worst.
