A+ For Loews Staff
Each year I'm a silver or gold member with Hotels.com-I stay at a lot of hotels & have never once felt compelled strongly enough to leave a review. We recently stayed at the Loews Madison. Its a great hotel in a great location but it was the staff that put our stay over the top. Innocence, the concierge greeted us multiple times daily. The first night he got the three of us free desserts at Mortons. The next evening with no notice, he called over to Old Ebbitts & had them squeeze us in. We hopped a short cab ride & our table was ready as soon as we walked in the door. For our last night in DC, the General Manager suggested a small, charming Italian restaurant (Filomena's) in Georgetown. We listened to Innocence call over and heard them say that they were completely booked for the night. He continued pressing them for a reservation for us leveraging his name & as well as the hotels'. He ended up getting us the reservation at a peak time! The restaurant was fully packed & our reservation ended up being for the same time as Denzel Washington. Talk about Loews getting us VIP service! Additionally, on a rainy day he was able to reschedule a Segway tour that I had booked online for the following (sunny) day despite a disclaimer on the reservation stating otherwise. He suggested we visit the museums on the rainy day & gave us all Loews Umbrellas. Loews really rolled out the red carpet for us & it made all the difference. Thank you Loews for a wonderful trip to DC!

Older Classic Hotel with Friendly Personnel
The best thing about my stay at The Madison was the customer service. Everyone I encountered was super friendly and helpful - they seemed really to want to do what they could to make my stay pleasant. I especially appreciated the young woman who checked me in at about 1 AM, the doorman and the concierge. Only one downside in terms of customer service - I called ahead of time because my flight was delayed. The woman on the phone did not seem interested in helping me to find transportation to the hotel from a different airport at a late hour. The information she gave me regarding SuperShuttle was incorrect. She told me they required 24 hour notice and was unconcerned about helping me. When I called SuperShuttle, they were extremely helpful and saved the day for me. But this was after I located a different phone number on my own. The Madison seems like an older hotel. The room was OK, nothing fancy. It seemed to have a slight smoking aroma. When I first arrived, one of the windows would not close, and this made the room pretty cold, so I had to keep turning the heat on. (I had arrived very late, so did not want to contact the desk about it until the next day.) The hotel took care of this the following day, and then the window closed. In the bathroom, there was no bath mat until the third day; I used a towel for this. The bed was super comfortable and luxurious, with great pillows! I did not think the restaurant or room service had much variety to offer.

Hotel is nice and staff was great, but there are a few things that werent so great. We did the deluxe room which granted is the cheapest of the rooms. My first issue was the curtains do not reach the bottom of the window so there is constant strip of light that shines into the room 24/7. As someone whose main love of hotels is blackout curtains this was diappointing. My second issue was how tiny the bathroom is. It is a ONE person only bathroom and even that was tight. Theres a shower behind the bathroom door, right next to the shower is the toilet which is an inch away from the door when its open and then a counter to the right, but half of the counter is unusable as the toilet is in front of it. Last thing that was a let down the breakfast bar (we didn't do the buffet). We ordered a turkey sausage breakfast sandwhich before heading out to the monuments. The egg was refrigerator cold.. the staff was good and offered to make another one. However, this one was also a bit cold. We ended up eating it and heading out because this already put us 30 minutes behind schedule. No other compensation was offered for the cold sandwich. The things i liked was the giant tv, its way bigger than most hotels. They also give water bottles when you check in which was nice. We had a corner room so it was very quite which was nice. Overall, it wasnt a bad stay for the price.

Not worth it. Book Elsewhere
This place is a disaster. To get anything done (i.e get towels sent up, have a package delivered to your room) you have to call at least two times. There aren't any in-room dining menus in the room so you have to call down and get one sent up but ultimately we never got it sent up and just went ahead and ordered two cups of tea which amounted to $20... There aren't any microwaves in the room BUT you can get one brought into your room for a charge of $25 BUT there were none available at the moment... So you'd think they'd be kind enough to warm up your food ... NOT (I've had this service offered for free in a bunch of other hotels all around the world) Lastly do yourself and your credit card a favor and DO. NOT. TOUCH. the minibar. Turns out it works with a sensor and anytime an item is removed you are charged for that item. So don't even think of perusing the minibar unless you will actually consume the item (there aren't any notices posted and we found out about this after the fact) We were charged $180 for the minibar although the thing was still fully stocked upon checkout so that goes to show that they don't care to do an inventory check before charging your credit card. Although this hotel is in a nice location (walking distance to White House, close to clubs and bars and Nandos) the hassle of dealing with the staff and their incompetence is not worth it. Book elsewhere Wifi is also a nightmare.

Very good 8.0
We used to love the Madison, this time it is more of a mixed review. To be fair, the hotel is undergoing renovations. It still does some things really well: The gym is very nice. WiFi was very fast. The bathroom is small but well designed. Water pressure in the shower (full bathtub) was good, and toiletries by Crabtree and Evelyn are good quality. The hotel is very well situated and room service is prompt, with good, if not excellent, food. We did not hear noise from either the corridor or other rooms. So far so good. What disappointed us was the room itself. In the first room we got, the bedding was clean, but the bedskirts were not. When we asked to be moved to another room, reception was apologetic and we were moved on the spot, but the second room felt dusty (I checked the top of the bed's headboard) and tired. When we asked for a late checkout, instead of the usual cooperation, we were asked to pay for a couple of hours extra - which is alright, but not if you tell guests that the hotel is packed, when it is obvious that, at the end of Thanksgiving break, most guests are leaving, not arriving. I hope those problems are due to the renovations and will be fixed. The Madison is one of the older hotels in DC and can become again the stellar hotel it used to be.
