Sintra is well known for its castle and gardens, featuring attractions such as Quinta da Regaleira and Monserrate Palace. This historical city has something for everyone including cafes and sights like Grande Beach and Adraga Beach—all within a secluded setting.
The only difficulty we found in Sintra was driving our rental car. Roads are twisty and narrow. Finding the right turns was challenging, especially at night. However walking was a challenge as well because of the hills, so we found the car to work.

Decided to walk to the Moorish Castle as well as Palacios de Pena. Not easy but loved it. Worth the effort and the views were spectacular. Also loved that the town gets quiet once the tour buses leave. Nice evening stroll with a few wine stops.

Gorgeous botanical gardens, a beautiful slice of history. Rural town, natural waterfalls, tropical plants and birds singing. Excellent food, friendly people. Lots of hills and stairs. One of my favorite places in Portugal.

The sidewalks are narrow, and all marble blocks. Wear comfortable shoes and be prepared to walk up and down hills. Easy to navigate to all the places of interest.

Super busy when we were there even it was in Oct. Public transit is cheap and easy. But our train from Lisbon to Sintra was delayed for 40 mins. The transit in Sintra area is not cheap, 2.60 euro per person per trip, no matter it's 4 or 30 stops.
"Ana and her staff were amazing. I felt like I was in my own house. Breakfast every morning was delicious. Perfect location. We headed to Porto afterwards and would have loved to take the hotel and staff with us! Beautiful decor. If we ever go back to Sintra, we will be staying at Sintra Marmoris Camelia. Thank you Ana for a wonderful stay"
"We had a fantastic week’s holiday in Sintra. The hotel was perfectly located for a stroll into town and easy access the great restaurants, cafes and the sights of Sintra. Brill ice cream from Mica’s just outside the hotel. Easy train ride to Lisbon and the beach for day trips.
The staff were very helpful and excellent service in particular Joao. We enjoyed a lovely breakfast full of choice everyday ready for hikes and touring about. "
"The hotel is truly as you see it in the images! The pool is massive and the beach is wonderful. We stayed with our 11&14year olds and they thought the location was awesome, and loved the breakfast. The room we had was spacious and perfect for all of us! You can easily pop to restaurants and the grocery store (we had a car), and the views from every space are gorgeous!"
