To be fair, this trip has reinforced we are not resort people. The service was impersonal and the crowd was very family oriented. The food was good and the room was fine. I think the main drawback was the dated age of the property and the worn condition of the furniture, towels, beach shoes etc.

Big resort on Western coast
Big resort with restaurant, bar, pool and other facilities. Gardens are scrupulously looked after. Staff are friendly, helpful and efficient. The pool was closed for a few days because guests (or parents of guests) cannot behave properly. The beach is a great plus.

Broken sliding door on ground floor unit.
We stayed one night and the sliding door on our ground floor room had a broken lock. Could not secure valuables or feel safe. The front desk said they would send someone to fix it. The guy brought a thin bamboo stick that he broke on his knee which did not secure the door. Front desk said that since we were only staying one night they would not give us another room, even though we had not used the room. We noticed the broken sliding door as soon as we left called in the room and notified them. Horrible experience.

The staff service, was not very accommodating to customers. Missed my breakfast booking for early morning flight, had to reorder and go back down to collect it. Make your beach towel last all day. Service was slow to order. The shower in the bathroom, the design needs to be different, floods the floor.

Our stay at the Edgewater was ok. Positives: - Outlook to the beach is amazing. - Could see humpback whales from the outdoor restaurant area. - Snorkelling. - Pool area. - Outdoor seating. - Our housemaid was very friendly and always accommodated any reques. - On site vehicle rental. - Sheltered from the majority of the wind. Negatives: - Roosters - There are many of them around the entire complex and we were woken about 4.30am every morning by the roosters, it was then non stop for the majority of the day and meant that not once did we get to sleep past 0600hrs. I’m not a light sleeper. It was so bad we wouldn’t stay here again because of it, it was NOT the restful holiday we had hoped for. - Raw sewage smell, this was pungent around the 900 block, when present which was more often than not, you couldn’t sit on the balcony or have the slider door open. - Dated rooms, our slider door was jammy and had to be lifted to work. - SOME staff seem like they don’t want to be there. Most of the staff are really good, but a handful act like you - a paying guest - are a massive inconvenience to them. In my opinion, the negatives we experienced significantly outweighed the positives, I personally wouldn’t stay at the Edgewater again. However Rarotonga in itself absolutely blew our minds and exceeded every expectation we had. We will look forward to returning, unfortunately just not to The Edgewater.

Our room was lovely and very clean. The house keeping staff were amazing and very accommadating and friendly. My sons wedding was amazing and the staff who worked the wedding function were great. The restaurant staff were also amazing except that there didnt seem to be much communication between floor/bar staff and the cashier. A few times i received calls to say a bill hadnt been paid when it had. I worked in hospitality for many years in Raro and in NZ and now work in Admin at a school here in Auckland with a staff of over 200 teachers and support staff. I address everyone with a warm greeting as soon as they aproach my very busy desk and I felt this was not always the case in the restaurant. Many times myself and other guests from our group were left waiting while staff ignored and spoke to each other or focused on paper work. Pros - the resort feel, the amazing staff, the cultural show, cleanliness of our room, the snorkelling, the whales, the food, the bar, the restaurants, facilities in general, family friendly, actvities hut ( always something on, staff were great!). Cons - sewerage smell ( even after they had tried to deal with it), dated and tired room (we definitely got what we paid for), tired snorkelling gear ( although this was free!). We would definitely come back - but upgrade our room.
