Downtown Utrecht
Excellent night sleep. Fair parking price and no extra charge for our little friend. Great breakfast

Very good 8.0
Lovely setting, great staff, recommended
This grand hotel, originally a monastery (visited by Emperor Charles V), has a stunning setting in a large, landscaped walled garden. Although only steps away from the centre/sights of Utrecht, it's a beautiful & peaceful setting - view of courtyard and trees, and all I could hear was birdsong and church bells! The many staff were very welcoming and helpful. Breakfast is pricey but delicious, held in the beautiful restaurant. My room in Empire wing was very large with traditional décor. The bathroom was huge - big tub and separate shower, twin basins, nice toiletries. Only strange thing was the grand, canopied, romantic-looking bed, which turned out to be two single beds pushed together and even had two single duvets. Otherwise, very highly recommended.

A wonderful hotel
You couldn't ask for better in Utrecht. It's ideally placed for exploring the canals, quiet streets and quirky old buildings. The site of the hotel is enormous, with fine buildings and lovely, well tended gardens. It's service with a smile all round. The room we chose was spacious and the breakfasts were a feast. Alright, it's not cheap, but you get what you pay for.

Amazing fun, staying in the right location added to making it a brilliant trip

Wouldn’t call this a 5 star hotel.
I wouldn’t rate as a 5 star hotel due to a couple of small reasons, it had single dispense toilet paper (similar to what you find in a service station) rather than a toilet roll? Why? Also the shower wasn’t great, the whole room seemed dated and I went for a deluxe!

Great service
Incredible service (best in town) - though the furniture is a little dated

Brilliant hotel and facilities. Needs new beds.
Gorgeous hotel with fantastic grounds in a very cool part of Utrecht. Had a business meeting on site early morning and was very well accommodated, had a great meal in the bistro the night before. Only negative is the beds as they desperately need replacing. New beds, mattresses, sheets and pillows please. I want to mention the two concierge's who were both very helpful, accommodating and amusing. Great job.

Fair 4.0
5 star facilities but missed the mark
The hotel itself is in a great location and has everything a 5 star hotel should have on paper, but it missed the mark. The rooms are old style ( not our taste, but ok), but the hallways in the main house have the charm of a youth hostel. - the hotel seems to be run by students ( receptionists, concierge, waiting staff) and that is very noticeable in the professionalism. When we arrived the receptionist was eating an apple, while one of the housekeeping staff members was sitting in the back office facing the guests while chewing gum and playing on her phone) - when we ordered room service I asked for a fresh non aclocholic cocktail, and was told I would get a mix of freshly squeezed juices , what I got was soda water with cranberry sirup, for a ridiculous price. And the waiter talked about how busy the day was and looked through all the windows of our room, as he says he had not been in this room and we had a good view. It was a bi weird. - The room service food quality was ok and it was delivered witin 20 minutes, but the food was drowning in sauce, so you could not taste the veggies or meat at all. - we were travelling with our 1,5 year old and had ordered a crib to be placed in the room, there was no crib and none was available! this was very bad service. - the breakfast quality was not great. the paprika and cucumber had been out for a while, and was stale. The bacon was hard and cold, etc. we left our meal and went to the city centre to have breakfast instead.
