23 Sept 2026Our experience at New Osaka Hotel Shinsaibashi was okay overall, but there were a few issues that left a sour taste.
The room was very, very outdated and could definitely use some renovations. When booking, we specifically requested a non-smoking room, but we were initially placed on a smoking floor. Thankfully, when we brought this to the staff’s attention and showed them our non-smoking request, they were nice enough to move us to another room. We appreciated how they handled the issue once we complained.
The biggest disappointment, however, was the luggage policy at checkout. We had a later flight and wanted to leave our bags at the hotel for a few hours after checking out. We had just stayed at hotels in Tokyo, Kyoto, and Hakone, and at each hotel we were able to leave our luggage after checkout without any issue.
Here, we were told that keeping our bags after 3 PM would cost ¥1,000. While ¥1,000 may not seem like a lot, what was particularly disappointing was that the bags were simply being kept in the lobby rather than in a secured luggage storage room. Paying an additional fee for this was unexpected, especially considering that other hotels we stayed at during this trip offered luggage storage as a complimentary service.
We have stayed at many hotels over the years, and this was a first for us. For the price of the hotel, I would strongly recommend reviewing this policy. A reasonable luggage storage service after checkout would go a long way toward improving the guest
