We stayed 3 nights in the "Executive Studio", and wished we hadn't. Literally checked the online booking terms first night to see if we could change. The Good: The owners were friendly and responsive, the location was walking distance to town and a supermarket across the road, linen clean and there was Sky TV. Not good: The room was tired and unloved. Literally a hole in the glass door covered with a sticker, and another in the wall. The one picture on the wall was faded out to sepia, could easily be improved with a $2 Op shop pic. Stairs wobbly, frypan scratched up, few supplies eg no scissors. No instructions for old stove system. No kitchen or bathroom exhaust fans. Shower low water pressure. Tissue box fastened to wall above toilet (!) Bed mattress sagging. Stains on carpet and crumbs in the joints of the metal & vinyl chairs (rust spots & rips). People leaving early for the ferry wake you up. But the kicker was the pillows. Cheap and yellowed completely from the dribble of thousands before you. We checked, all were stained yellow. Not spots, the whole surface yellowed. How long does that take? How can a motel not care enough to change out old dirty pillows for their customers? Ick. Even a budget motel needs to take some pride in what they are providing customers, and this was lacking. Picton was beautiful, Aldan Lodge could easily be better.
