Downtown Truckee
City centre Truckee captures Gold Rush charm with its weathered brick facades and wooden shopfronts lining historic Commercial Row. The Old Jail Museum and Railway Museum tell stories of the town's 19th-century logging and railway past. Wander past Victorian-era buildings or check out the iconic Rocking Stone Tower before relaxing by the crystal-clear Truckee River that flows through town. Mountain comfort food dominates the dining scene with hearty American fare and craft beer options. Boutique hotels and cosy bed & breakfasts offer fireplaces and mountain views for overnight stays. The compact city centre is easily explored on foot, with the free trolley connecting to Northstar during ski season.

Northstar
The Northstar neighbourhood has lots to see, including Northstar Golf Course and Northstar California Resort.

Northstar Village
Northstar Village turns mountain life into a holiday fantasy with its car-free, alpine-style wonderland. The pedestrian plaza buzzes with skiers and shoppers circling the centrepiece ice skating rink. Hit the slopes via the Big Springs Express Gondola in winter or tackle mountain biking trails when the snow melts. Fire pits invite you to kick back with hot chocolate while watching the sunset paint Tahoe's mountains. Upscale restaurants serve farm-to-table cuisine that tastes even better after a day outdoors. Luxury condos and boutique hotels offer cosy fireplaces and mountain views, though they command premium prices. The heated walkways make exploring this compact village a breeze, even in your snow boots.

Donner Lake Woods
Donner Lake Woods delivers a classic mountain getaway with pine-scented air and sparkling lake waters. Water lovers can paddle across crystal-clear Donner Lake or relax on West End Beach while soaking up Sierra Nevada views. This area offers the perfect blend of outdoor adventure and peaceful seclusion, with informal hiking trails winding through wooded areas and pristine shorelines waiting to be explored. Holiday rental cabins and lakefront homes with rustic charm provide full kitchens and outdoor decks for stargazing. You'll need a car to access this quiet retreat, as public transit is limited. Most visitors bring groceries from nearby Truckee, embracing the self-sufficient cabin culture that makes this forest hideaway special.

Northstar Resort by Vail Resorts
"We had a Great experience"
The Inn at Truckee
"Staff was incredible very on top of our request. They helped me print a few documents on the front desk! Only issue I had raised. The floors were very dirty and it felt moist, and the room was very outdated. Parking was easy and the complimentary breakfast and coffee was awesome. Again staff was great just the room was not comfortable."
West River House
"Look comfortable, new experience, it’s clean , good space."
Martis Valley Lodge, Tapestry Collection by Hilton
"Great"
SpringHill Suites by Marriott Truckee Lake Tahoe
"We’ve stayed here several times while in the area, and will continue to do so. Helpful and attentive staff, ample quality breakfast selections, lovely setting off 1-80 up the hill from downtown Truckee, and large suite. I rated this a 4 instead of my usual 5 star rating as a few things in the vanity area of the bathroom needed attention. There were numerous dried white spots (?toothpaste) on the walls which were easily removed with a wet washcloth. Built-up dust and grit were on the counter behind the sink, and one corner of the counter which were unsightly - this was unfortunate as the rest of the bathroom and living areas were neat and well-stocked."
The Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe
"$37 for a martini was a bit much. Trash in the hall way and a leaky hallway ceiling were on two different floors. Poop bags were not replaced during my three day stay. This was at the lawn in the back. The door to get to that lawn is not accessible with a room key forcing people with their dogs to walk all the way to the side doors. We used a rock to prop the door open so we could get back in. The staff was fantastic in all departments."
One Village Place Residences, Lake Tahoe
"Beautiful place and stay."
East West Hospitality Tahoe
"Great location. However, If you are sensitive to nighttime light, choose a unit facing the mountains, not interior village. This was an issue because there weren’t black out curtains. Kitchen was large, great for families. Living room was spacious."
The Cottages at Old Greenwood
"We had a wonderful weekend at Old Greenwood celebrating a friend’s wedding. The staff was very friendly and helpful. "
